It's probably happening because there are rumors and talk of lots of civilians in that area moving or fleeing.
It's probably pretty likely the Russians will encircle and cut off Kharkov. I highly doubt that they will do a direct assault on the city itself it wouldn't make sense. Just do 2 pincer movements to cut it off and encircle it, wait it out for a period of time and tell them to surrender or fight to the death.
Kharkov is not bastogne. It won't hold out indefinitely. Patton isn't on his way.
I don't want to send a laughing emoji because I'm not 100% that we won't see tactical nukes. I'm expecting NATO to throw some last ditch effort to slow down the Russian steamroller this summer and Russia may actually use tactical nukes. It's not off the table.

Tactical nukes wont be used by the Russians because they dont need to use them . Unless they have to fight NATO in some way. Ive heard talk about a No fly zone again. But thats pretty much the same as a declaration of war, so I think its just talk .
From what Im seeing, the Ukrainians are in a lot of trouble. If that Northern front can cut off and bypass Kharkov and continue to drive south behind the Uki front ,the Russians will be able to cut off or threaten to encircle huge parts of the front, forcing the Ukrainians back hundreds of miles or be encircled .
Judging by Zelensky's previous work I would say hes going to let them be encircled .I can see the Ukrainians, breaking and running back all the way to the Dnipro river if they cant stop them . the whole front will break.
Another wildcard is the Poles, theres talk about them entering Ukraine and annexing parts of it , I dont know what or how the Russians would respond , but it wouldnt be a NATO move, it would be independent of NATO . Not sure if the Poles are that stupid , but it probably wont end well

Western rhetoric about NATO's direct involvement significantly curtails each time Russia holds tactical nuclear drills.
I think Ukraine might be on the verge of having their front lines collapse and if that happens it will open a new dangerous time as NATO might panic and get over zealous to support Ukraine to try and bolster them.

Facism is a very particular form of totalitarian socialism.
It is not a synonym for totalitarianism, or imperialism, or any of a dozen other isms.
By any measure, a lot of military bases all over the place is certainly not a measure of facism.

Your splitting hairs . There are different types of socialism, totalitarianism, imperialism, capitalism, and fascism. Just because it may not fall into your strict definition of the word doesn't make it wrong. Loosley speaking, the United states represents its corporate interests globally . it places the intrests of the corporations above the interests of its own people and people abroad . Albeit, It may not be national socialism in its purest form , but its values merge. The number of US bases globally is not intended for the protection of the US border. Its purpose is to serve the interests of international bankers and corporations who pay good money for such influence .US foreign policy is not driven by the needs of the people , Its driven by Wall st. We would not have de -industrilaized the entire country for the good of the American people , It was the good of those to stand to make great fortunes at the expense of the American public.
There's a lot of truth here. Every global reserve currency exerts a disproportionate amount of global military control to control shipping and commerce as well.
Remember when the little island of Great Britain had the world's largest navy and an empire that the sun never set on? Well there was a reason the GBP was the dominant currency. They fought to keep it as such.
We are doing exactly the same but worse. We are hitting CTRL+P and letting it ride. We control the oil trade and smash anyone who gets out of line. We keep the Petro dollar alive by any means necessary.
The point you made about off shoring all our cheap shit and production was great for profits and the 1% but all we have to show for it is a bunch of cheap shit that breaks way too fast and no ability to produce anything of critical importance in any meaningful volumes or at competitive pricing. Our supply chains are so fucked if we have to spool up for increased war production. We didn't do the American workers or middle class any favors either.
Perhaps not but I do wonder why we have so many bases around the world. World war 2 and the cold war are over. We neither need to be nor can we afford to be the world's policeman.
There is a serious disconnect in this country on this topic. My guess is that 99.9% of the citizens are clueless regarding the extent of our military presence around the world and it's associated cost. The ruling elites (in both parties) prefer it that way so they don't have to explain or defend the policy. It's way past time for an honest debate about it.

That is not what we have here, we have the opposite, where the government is a wholly owned subsidiary of the corporations.

I'd you think it's expensive maintaining those bases, you should see what it would cost to close them.
The US economy is supported on inflation of the dollar. We essentially tax the entire world when we print new dollars.
They put up with it because of the stability we provide. We are the defacto world's police, but we don't do it for free.
Every country with one of those bases *wants* us there. If we vacated, they'd have to defend themselves.
Don't make the mistake of assuming the last 80 years of peace in the world is the new normal. That is largely the direct result of our military dominance.
If we stop, things will get very bad, very quickly, for everyone.
We have a vested interest in not allowing the world we live in to devolve into a WWIII shithole.
