I can't really handle 44 mags anymore and the SR frame is too big. The GP is perfectly sized and I could load up the specials a bit with a beefy GP, if needed.
Years ago, when I use to reload a lot, I had a S&W Model 24, .44 Special. Of all the calibers I reloaded for, that one seemed to me to be the most inherently accurate of them all. Load it up, load it down, it would always be consistently accurate, giving nice tight groups. Never held a Ruger GP100, looks to be about the size of a K frame, that would be a very nice little package.
That .44 can be loaded up pretty hot, enough that you could hunt deer with it. I cast mostly SWC with copper gas checks. Can't remember exactly the amount of powder but I probably used 'Unique' and 'Blue dot', at different times depending on what it was for. Awesome little cartridge the .44 spa., I ought to look into that GP100.
