What bugs me is that in the U.S. there were 47,055 drug overdose deaths (CDC data) This article only notes "heroin" deaths, maybe we could report only firearm deaths by "rifle" :

2012 total rifle deaths were 322 and so called "assault rifles" are a fraction of that total!

And Oh Yeah: 2/3 of gun deaths are by suicide.

Generally speaking I am for ending the war on drugs. The costs outweigh the benefits. However, people are kidding themselves if they don't think there will be problems if all drugs were legalized. Heroin is illegal now and look at the death toll. I doubt deaths would go down if it became legal. I think the point about legal prescription narcotics leading to heroin is very valid. But I don't see how any of this changes if heroin becomes legal. I don't have any answers, I just think legalization won't lead to fewer overdose deaths. Is there such a thing as a non-addictive painkiller?

I really dont care if people kill themselves with drugs, but when other people get beaten, robbed and killed over drugs, thats a problem.
Losers will continue to use drugs, abuse drugs, die and kill for drugs. Make stiffer penalties, lock up the border with Mexico and dry up the addicts with 5 years in prison.
Ive known plenty of people who went through rehab many, many times. I seriously csnt think of ONE that doesn't use today. None of these losers paid for any of these rehabs, we paid every cent, for nothing.
