Thoughts on hunting property and where to hunt

Hunted the blind this morning and saw two deer. One was so early it was just a brown blob and unidentifiable and not legal shooting hours anyway. I saw one other between a tree for just a second, no shot and wouldn’t be able to ID it anyway. The kick in the shorts and what aggravates me is if I was in my stand I’d have seen it and had a clear shot. I’m in my stand now and this is the tree it walked by. It’s probably 20’ from my stand. I’m in my stand now and they walk the scrub brush in the early morning and afternoon. Wind is at my back now so praying one walks from behind right under my stand. About 8-10 piles of deer poop around my stand.
I also saw a grouse eating cottonwood buds this morning and a beautiful hawk. There is a dead deer in our creek. I found a leg and ribs.

Da g. Now there’s 25-30mph winds. Glad I have a thick tree, but not hoping for much. Woods are quiet now except one really loud bird.

You saw 2 live deer, a grouse that didnt damn near give you a heart attack ( i've seen many, and every one damn near gave me heart attack when I kicked them up) a beautiful hawk and a coyote kill carcass.My friend, there will come a day when you realize that that was a successful day in the woods.Gotta learn to appreciate days like this because you're gonna find more days like this than days you get a kill. Do you have a doe permit? Its likely that one in ten deer you see will be does, if you want meat and not just trophy hunting, a doe permit is the way to go.There are no sure fire techniques you may be missing to get your deer.All the precautions just help increase your chances of seeing deer,to some degree.Having a doe permit, using the 10 to 1 ratio I gave, and that is pure speculation no data to those numbers, you increase your chance of seeing a target by 10. Dont fret so much about what you did wrong or coulda done better and appreciate a good day in the woods.Its good to make mental note of these thoughts, but dont kick yourself for getting skunked, you didnt get skunked, the deer just won today.

I took a closer look at that spread and it's a very nice little piece of property. And I've seen a lot of wall hangers come from your area. With a working farm it should be a deer magnet. The woods already have good resources with the oaks, apples, and water and such. Find a natural funnel with runs and sit back a ways. I'd bet the place is full of rubs and scrapes too. Plenty of time left in the woods if you bow and muzzle load.

I took a closer look at that spread and it's a very nice little piece of property. And I've seen a lot of wall hangers come from your area. With a working farm it should be a deer magnet. The woods already have good resources with the oaks, apples, and water and such. Find a natural funnel with runs and sit back a ways. I'd bet the place is full of rubs and scrapes too. Plenty of time left in the woods if you bow and muzzle load.

I need to create a funnel by my stand and force them to go the want I want them to go. There is a ravine that seems to be working like a funnel and I have a bit of one by my stand, but it’s more of a two way funnel.

Sorry if you misread that was me being excited about that stuff. I was sitting in my blind and I saw a large brown bird fly up and flutter it’s wings on a beach. I was trying to figure out what it was. I thought it was an owl since it was early dusk so I was afraid to raise my binoculars. Finally I said what do I have to lose? I raised them and found it to be a grouse eating buds or berries out of a tree 15’ off the ground.
As for a doe tag I do not have one for my area, but I do for another area I hunt a bit. It’s more of a neighborhood in west falls so I’m not a huge fan. There’s guys riding wheelers and chainsawing down trees the last two times I hunted there. And they were close, too close for my comfort in shooting. I did apply, but was rejected. I also think you’re right on the 1:10. I’ve read articles that say science figures it to be 1:12.
it got too windy and I was freezing in my stand so I went back to the blind. Funny I was sitting in the blind and I heard a loud wired noise close by and what seemed right outside. I turned slowly to look, but saw nothing. I exit my blind about 2:30-3:00 to take a quick stalk at an area and there is a small pile of deer poop out side my blind 3’ away, shiny and green. So did a deer poop right outside my blind while I was in it? Seriously? Also found some tree bark close by that seems like it was a rub from a buck.
