Three Screw Ruger Blackhawk

So on a whim today I bought a three screw Ruger Blackhawk in 45lc. The owner of the gun shop I go to is selling a bunch of stuff from his personal stash.

He said it was a three screw? To me that just means I had a fun night at the massage parlor.

Can someone educatee on why a three screw is more desirable then a new model?

Got a good price $450 and the action is smooth with four clicks.

That my friend is a nice piece. Any idea of DOM? If it has the transfer bar conversion installed it would be in your best interest to get the original parts if the seller has them. If he doesn't have them they can be purchased used from time to time. With the conversion the trigger pull may be a little heavy.

If it has not had the conversion you can only load 5 and keep the hammer over an empty or fired chamber.

That is about the closest you can get to a real cowboy gun... Good score.

I have a three screw single six, and it is going to stay 5hat way.

I have a 357 Blackhawk (3 screw). I sent it to the factory for something and they put the conversion in it. That made the action TERRIBLE. Fortunately they sent the original parts back with it so I was able to get it back to original. I love that pistol. I won't send it back for anything for fear that I won't get the original parts back if they convert it again.

That’s a great deal On a 3 screw flat top Ruger. ! A 4” flat top in .357 is at the top of the list for my next pistol purchase.

I inherited a 3 screw in .357. It is in unaltered condition. I have yet to try it out. Maybe this summer.

Sorry I have been slow with pictures up. I got it last week and didn't post pics as I was busy and just didn't take any. I did get to shot it and it is a great shooting revolver. Very smooth action. Looks like it was manufactured in 1971. No transfer bar in it so it is all original. Great shape for a 48 year old pistol Notice the black Ruger logo. I guess that has something to do with when Sturm died and guns made before his death had the red logo and guns after his death the went black in his honor. The red log came back to celebrate the 50 anniversary of their first pistol.

Funny how you find the gems when you re not really looking to buy anything.

Very nice 3 screw ! Unfortunately it isn’t a flat top. They were discontinued in ‘62. That really only matters to collectors. The transfer bars were added in ‘73
