Tikka T3 Scope Mount Options

I am getting a Tikka T3X in .223 for a chassis build next week. It seems like the Tikka has a propriotary scope ring mount. I also see there is a pic rail available in place of the rings. The rail obvoulsly has a little more adjustability as far as ring placement which I would prefer. With the rail, there would be two mounting points, one for the rail onto the gun and one mounting the rings to the rail. I have a brand new Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50 scope I will be using. Has anyone here with a Tikka used the rail to mount their scope? If so, was it as solid as using the rings by themselves?

I have a T3, although it's a bit older. Yes, the Tikka line uses a proprietary ring, and it's my opinion that the rings supplied with the rifle aren't made to the highest standards. I purchased a set of Leupold rings for mine. While I understand that you may want more adjustability in the placing of your scope, I found that the cuts on the receiver were well placed.

I might suggest that you try to mount your scope directly to the receiver first. If it's not to your liking, then try adding the Weaver rail. You'll also not add unnecessary height to the position of your scope by mounting direct. If you find the Weaver rail necessary, clean and degrease everything, then use ample amounts of Loktite and torque the screws evenly.

Thanks. I welcome all $.02, especially from experience. I do like to have my scope as close to the barrel as possible. I thought Talley was the only one who made rings for the Tikka but I will give Leupold a look too as I have the Leupold dovetail rings on one of my Remington 700’s and they are as solid as a rock. I’ll try the rings by themselves first and see how that works.

I want to say that Warne makes rings for Tikka as well, but I would have to dig to confirm.

I went with the Talley rings in medium height mounted directly to the receiver. It puts the scope about 1/2" above the barrel. There is plenty of scope adjustment with just the rings. Seeing how small the mounting screws are, I think there would have possibly been some slight movement, although not detected by the eye, if I used the rail and the rings together. The rings alone are a solid set up. Now I am just waiting on the chassis to complete it.

I just bought a Tikka a few months ago and love it. Mine did NOT come with rings but it has a great mounting rail. It's probably just a straight rail (not 20MOA or anything) but any of the rings I had worked fine. Which rifle are you getting? There are a ton of T3X Models, I bought the Super Varmint in 223 myself. Tikka T3x Super Varmint .223 Rem 23.7" 1:8" Bbl Green Roughtech 6rd Rifle JRTXRSV312R8
The rail that came on the rifle seems solid with 0 issues. I guess I need more clarification on what your concern is. What chassis did you get, I bought the MDT and love it!

I got the less expensive T3X Lite because all I need is the receiver, bolt and trigger for the chassis build. I prefer to use a heavier barrel. I usually sell the barrel and stock on ebay. Mine didn't come with rings or a rail. Just threaded holes to mount what ever you choose.

I wanted to go with another XLR chassis like I have on a few of my Remington 700's. Unfortunately there is a 5 to 6 month wait for an XLR right now. I looked at the MTD LSS XL but a few of the reviews said that AR grips and buttstocks, which that chassis is supposed to use, did not fit very well. Thats enough for me to look elsewhere. For now I ordered the MDT Oryx chassis in black just to get the rifle up and shooting. I'll give XLR another look in a few months to see what the lead times are and if they have anything new.

Sounds like it's gonna be a great setup. I looked @ the Oryx myself but liked the looks of the XRS better, although the Oryx is less $$$. I'll look forward to your completed project. What scope are you going to mount? While it's "OK" I just have an Arkin right now & I really have no other place to shoot other than our 100yrd range at the moment, there are some other places but either too far or they want a ton of $$$, kinda sucks. It's waaaaay overkill for this rifle but looking hard @ the Vortex Razor III. Big bucks but with Vortex's 40% off for Vets/LEOs it makes it hurt less. I would probably move that scope around on some of my bigger bore Precision rifles and they would be more fitting. I have both a 5R in 308 and an older Rem 700 in 30/06 that went full tilt through the Custom Shop and is pretty badass & shoots great. Anyways keep us posted on how it shoots and when it's up & running, enjoy

I just got notification that the chassis wont be delivered for another 3 to 4 weeks. For some reason all these chassis companies have a back log. I will be using a Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50 scope with the talley medium rings. I liked the Nikon Black FX and the Prostaff 5 scopes but when Nikon stopped making rifle scopes, I switched to Vortex on all my newer rifles because their reticle was almost identical to Nikon. I still have the Nikons in use. I now have 4 Vortex scopes, one Viper 4-16x50, one Viper 6-24x50 and two Crossfire 1-4x24 and they all perform very well.
Eventually when I get the chassis, I will post up some pics.

Sounds good. I never had any high-end Nikons but the ones I have are great scopes. I never owned any Vortex scopes but know they offer a lot of value & options for the price so ya really can't go wrong. I kinda jumped on the Athlon bandwagon and have had great luck with them, I have low-end ones and some higher-end ones and they offer a lot for the $$$, I say worth looking if any have features you like. Maybe it's a Spring thing with the chassis, everyone getting set up for PRS & ELR shooting. And I will confess, I will own a Vortex next week, I bought the Razor III, and I'll report back when I get it set up. Keep us posted.

The chassis just bumped to two weeks ship time.

Here is the rifle now with the scope and rings mounted. Its not torqued yet as I wont know the position of the scope until it is mounted with the chassis.

Looks like it will be a few months before any chassis I want is in stock anywhere. I looked at all the manufacturer websites and they all have an expected in stock date months away.
