Awhile back I made a comment about frame stippling being mostly for looks and now I am considering a stipple job on my G34. A friend has been doing some stippling work and I am starting to change my tune. I dont think I would want to do a carry pistol, but for a range pistol I might like it. I still have 2 hang ups first, its permanent and secondly I dont know what texture I want. He plans on doing a couple more of his own pistols trying some different textures, so I would have a few more options to consider.

Here is a pic of his G23 I do like it but its not quite aggressive enough for my purposes, but would be nice on a carry pistol.


Here is a pic of his G34 build, it is too aggressive for me since I have softer hands. As you can see the imprints in my hand after a quick squeeze.

I think I would like to keep the finger groves since they do fit my hand well. Also, on the larger frame I dont think I need the under-cuts on the trigger guard. The other thing is it would make the the beaver tail grip permeant.

If you guys have any pics of cool stipple jobs please post. I would like to consider a stipple pattern.

The cool part about the stippling is there are so many different patterns., many companies have "EDC" packages with what they believe to be the best of their level of aggressiveness? That doesnt sound like a coherent sentence oh well.

But a good idea could be, get a more aggressive texture and if you think it's to much... some fine grit sand paper and a little time and you can make it less aggressive.

And completely worse case, $100+tax+shipping send the frame back to glock and they will "give" you a new one

Talon grips are decent but no where near as nice as a stipple job

I currently have the sandpaper Talons and they are loosing their aggressiveness quite quickly.

My talons don't stay put on the back of the grip. For some reason, they start riding up the grip. 3rd pair. Same thing.

Agreed.

I see too often during firearm reviews, adult men complaining on youtube videos and discussion boards like little girls about how certain pistol grip textures (often factory) are "too aggressive" and leave imprints on their sensitive skin.

Heres a picture of mine. You will have to zoom in some to look at the stippling. I will say I researched a lot before I took the plung. The hard part is you can grab them to compare the styles. So I say do your homework and make a decision from there. Some reputable companies only do cosmetic stipping and doesnt really help with grip. I will say your second picture is close to my pattern. After shooting it a few time you won't hold the gun as tight because of it and I feel like I have a more relaxed shot.

Little update on the G34 its all together except the mag release. Since he has a red trigger blade we are going to trade my red release for his black one. Might be shooting it tomorrow night

The custom Glock 34 is up and running. We swapped mag released and sighted in the RMR. It did have a few malfunctions and the trigger didnt reset once. Lucky, I had a glock minus connector in my bag and it ran like a top!!!!

The light weight slide make one hell of a difference.... Went back and forth several time and could not believe it. Hard to explain but the recoil felt notably less and the pistol seemed to stay on target much better.

Btw, the stippling on the grip lost its sharp edge and now feels real nice.

A little update on the custom G34. Its almost all sorted out. The supressor sights are installed and it co witnesses very well. We did test the trigger weights on both G34s and they are both about 3 lb pull weights, but neither one of us likes the reset it is a little weak for our taste. They shoot fine its more of a preference deal. We both have 4 lb striker springs and I did buy a spring kit with 4, 4.5, and 5 lb springs. I did not experiment because I gave the spring kit to my buddy since he was experiencing some light strikes and he will be shooting a match on Wednesday. The lite strikes are not that common he has an older spring and it was with reloads with cci primers that are known to be hard. Im guessing I will like the 4.5 spring, it should sharpen the reset the little that I am looking for. I see that some use a 2 and 3 lb spring but can not imagine them working well, maybe they have some different mods than I.

The gen 3 recoil spring assembly was installed with the 11 lb spring the slide felt real lite we did try a 13 lb spring and it had a good feel and shot well. We did not test the the spring much since the pistol was experiencing some other issues that consumed the time.

While working the slide it would occasionally bind up and hold open on its own. Since it was intermittent it took us a bit to to track down. It did not hang up while firing. After screwing around we tried my swapping barrels between the 34s and the problem went away, so we knew it was an issue of the Zev barrel to slide fit. We found that the slide was hanging up on the barrel on the left side. Inside the slide there is a lip that the machining was not very smooth on and the edges of the lip are sharp as hell. We did not have a file or stone to clean it up, so we lubed the barrel and slide where it was catching. After that the pistol worked great, but the surfaces will get massaged.

I guess the take home message is, if building a custom pistol dont expect to take all the different parts out of the box and throw them together and expect everything to be perfect. Not trying to discourage anyone just want it to be known that some screwing around may be necessary.

One of my future projects is to get a nice Glock 34 and hooked it up similar to yours.

I think my build is going to be mostly stock parts. After researching last night I think I know what I want from my project. I want a cool looking pistol that has a better trigger that is 100% reliable.

Mostly OEM innards arent a bad way to go, and most of the stuff will be hard to notice like millisecond difference in lock up. But a good trigger and nice slide will make a huge difference

Should I look for a complete drop in trigger or maybe just a trigger connector?

Drop in would be a good way to go, many will throw in a minus connector. But if you are not sure which one to go with then a minus connector will clean up the stock trigger pretty nicely

If its the gen 5 you are building leave the trigger stock and get it up and running with the new slide. Get striker spring set, it is a slide part but does make a difference in trigger pull weight. Once its running good, then decide what you want to do with the trigger.

I like mine!!! But, any trigger can be at the door in a few days why rush it.
