Timeline/Profile : Rensselaer County

Hello all,

I want to share my timeline in a hope that it will encourage whoever happens to stumble upon this information to submit the application and get started, especially here in Rensselaer county!

My profile:

• 33 yrs old female.
• Rensselaer county resident of 6 yrs.
• first time submitting application in NYS.
• Recently naturalized US Citizen. 2 yrs.
• Shooting varsity.
• Had CCW in Virginia before moving up north.
• NYS employee.

Timeline: 2019

06/26 Submitted application & fingerprinted.

07/09 Submitted all 4 references forms.

07/19 Got a call from the county clerk office to set up appointment to pick up the unrestricted permit with no interview with the judge.

07/22 Picked up the permit & submitted the pistol serial number. Waiting for the judge to sign so I can pick up my P365

Here’s my thoughts on this whole process:

• I thought it’d be no chance of me getting the unrestricted permit since I’m in Rensselaer county and I’m not in law enforcement field. I did have a hope and I did my best writing my cover letter stating the reasons.
• I thought it would have taken more than 3-6 months to get the permit so I was told. I was also told that Rensselaer county is quick to process the application right now. I was in no way thinking it’d taken less than a month!
• I really thought that the interview was to be expected for everyone without any exception. It’s a delightful surprise to be honest.

I know I’m really lucky and this is probably not a norm but hey this whole thing really did bring the joy back into my life because soon enough I will get to do what I love again!

Absolutely agreed. I moved from VA beach and it took me literally 20 mins to get my first pistol and at the time I was only a permanent resident too. Having to wait 5+ years already, I considered less than a month of the process time to be pretty quick. Could it be more effective way? Absolutely. However, my situation changed from the relocation and I just have to adapt to it FWIW.

Congratulations on getting your unrestricted permit. I'm in rensselaer county as well. When I applied for mine it took 5 months start to finish. The thing that took the most of the 5 months was waiting to hear back from the sheriff's department for a finger printing appointment. Once you got your finger prints and submitted your application to them (which was done at the same time) you just had to get your reference sheets in and then it all went very quickly from there. I think it was only 3 weeks from when I handed in my reference sheets to when I got the call that my permit was ready.
Unfortunately I got the least 2A friendly judge and most likely will have no chance at having my restrictions lifted (that's a whole other can of worms though). I think there are only one of two judges who issue unrestricted right off the bat. I'm guessing you got Zwack for a judge?

People call me crazy but I was super excited the first time I got a notice for jury duty and how bummed I was when the case didnt go forward.
