Took the Bergara to a 300 yard match

I participated in my first midrange match on Saturday, 300yd slow fire prone using a sling.

Perfect weather so no excuse for a poor shots. I was nervous going into the first match, settled down for my best score on the second, then I form broke down on the last match. Overall, I averaged an 8.6 per shot, and minus that 1 flyer was holding the black.

The next one is next year, so I have quite a while to work on getting all shots w/n the 8 at least.

I'm looking for a way to attach front sights so I can switch between peep sights for high power then the scope if I ever get into precision rifle matches.

Nice targets. What ammo/bullet you using? It would be interesting to track the bullets as the barrel warms up.

There is going to be "Frozen Nuts" winter league 300yd x 3 slow prone in Winslow, NJ. I think it's first Sunday of each month starting with Nov 3rd and ending in March. Great way to deal with cabin fever. There are no pits at that range, it's a walk and paste match. They set up the targets to enhance visibility of the hits, but a good spoting scope is still needed. I will post the program later on.

If there was a trend due to barrel temperature, wouldn’t have noticed due to the all the other factors..shooter related. The F class guys were drilling their targets, though. I heard someone call for target repair after about 5 shots while I was in the pit. I don’t know if they had to factor it in.

“Near” is relative..I foresee myself driving a day to get to my ultimate goal match haha. .308

Lol true. I don’t get to far from home base. My wife and I do shoot a couple gssf matches in ny. Weird feeling without my kids. Wife and I enjoy our time together.

Of all the hobbies/sports I’ve done before, this is the only one she has asked to try and taken a real interest in. I’m just waiting on this rod&gun club membership application to push through, then I’ll take her to the range.

Nice. My wife loves shooting. I’m hoping to get my wife’s rifle together for this weekend. She really likes paintballing......she guns for me.

I actually like shooting in the cold, some people don't. When I am setting up the cold does seem intimidating, but as I start shooting my focus shifts to the fundamentals and the cold is no longer felt. The only thing I notice is runny nose.
You do have to protect your eyes from light reflected from the snow. It takes only 10-15 minutes to effect your visual acuity and much longer to recover. If there is snow on the ground, polarized sun glasses have to be worn before and if possible during the shooting.

Ever use 168 grain HPBT target bullets as an option? At 300 yards your .308 might like them.

Shooting indoor smallbore during winter is a great way to improve your shooting. I never got around to doing it, I know I should have.

An older gentleman gave me some pointers into “how to get good at this thing” and one of them was to hang put with the good shooters and I think there’s a bunch of them in this league hahaha

Ever use 168 grain HPBT target bullets as an option? At 300 yards your .308 might like them.

I did try 168 & 175. Except for a slightly different drop and a slightly harder kick, at my level, I can’t see a difference.

If anything, I thought the lower weight with flatter flight would be an advantage at 300. But, looking at my vertical oblong groups, I have other issues than bullets hahaha

They submit your scores to the NRA for classification so I think they do the matches under NRA highpower rules.

What did you mean exactly when you ask “any”? I’ve seen shooters run pretty serious looking rigs.

I’m not very familiar as well, I knew my rifle was GTG when I came to a similar match the month before and saw the kinds of rifle they were shooting.

As for price cap, I’m sure there isn’t... I think their spotting scopes alone cost more than my whole rifle+scope hahaha

There r definitely some fancy rigs there lol. I don’t have any f class or bench rifle. But I have a couple nice rifles I could use. Looks fun
