What if I only had 10 round belts? There’s nothing that I’m aware of that says belt fed alone makes it illegal or an assault rifle. What if you damaged the links on the end so they were only 10 rounds long?

You would have to figure out how to run it with a 10 round cloth belt though. Disintegrating links are "high cap magazines".

The individual links themselves are technically illegal in NY because they can be readily restored to be a greater than 10 round mag.
You can crush the end links all you want, but since you can break a belt and insert links anywhere at will, the whole thing is illegal.

You can buy legal semi-auto M2's.
They are classified as just normal rifles.
Might have to manually load them one at a time to be NY legal though.
It still wouldn't be an assault rifle. It can't by any definition.
Until those links are assembled into a capacity of more than 10, I don't see the problem as a box of 1000 could be assembled into 100 - 10 round belts. Besides, the high capacity infringement is about to go just as well based upon Bruen! Because in those other 43 States, they're common use! Besides, the "State" would have a hard time trying to exhibit the last time a belt fed device was used ILLEGALLY... Lmfao!

I may have "found" a box of links when I unpacked here in AZ (box of 30rnd AK mags too LOL).
But the mag limit law says if you rivet or whatever a mag to make it NY legal it has to be "permanent". That's the only place in SAFE that says permanent.
There is no way possible to say a belt of 10 rounds of disintegrating links is "permanently" less than 11.
You could have a 10rnd cloth belt for a 1919 though.
I think if you wanted to have an M2 in NY (and cared to remain strictly legal) you would have to just single load it and not possess any links.
I also don't think anyone would care about your 3 10 round belts, unless they were looking for something to get you on. I have always said that in NY if they're looking to get you they can find something no matter how careful you are.
