Town of Wallkill couple arrested on drugs and weapons charges

On September 17, 2019 at approximately 2:45 p.m., state police observed a black 2009 Honda Accord traveling west on Interstate 84 in the town of Montgomery in violation of numerous New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws. State police initiated a traffic stop. While interviewing the operator of the vehicle, Anthony C. Smieszek, age 30 of Wallkill, the trooper observed him attempting to hide an unknown object. Smieszek was asked to exit the vehicle along with his passenger Kristina Keener, age 30 of Wallkill. While interviewing Smieszek, it was learned that the object he was attempting to hide was a vaporizer containing THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) oil vape cartridge.

A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded multiple hypodermic needles containing heroin residue, a black plastic bag hidden under the rear passenger containing over $5,000 in U.S. currency, plastic bags containing THC and marihuana products in the trunk and a black Sar Arms semi-automatic pistol with two large capacity ammunition magazines hidden in the spare tire compartment underneath the spare tire.

Interestingly enough, the full press release lists out what they were charged with - and exactly NONE involve "violation of numerous New York State Vehicle and Traffic laws." Which was the activity that initiated the stop.

I'm not saying it isnt a good bust, but still.

PS I have to assume the 7th degree possession of a controlled substance is the heroin residue in the needles but someone more in the know can correct me if I'm wrong.

must have have been one big ass Vape Cartridge to hide while pulling over and coming to a stop ..

Really .. so the Trooper is at the door talking to you and your trying to hide shit .. .. i smell BS ..

On reflection, let me walk that back- they're likely citable/fineable offenses, not chargeable in the criminal sense.

Just set on a grand jury... DA said Many times they just let the lesser charges go as the jury will get hung up debating these at the trial (for hours )....So they just go for the big charges ...
