Trail Cam pic - Bobcat.

EDIT - It’s definitely a bobcat.



A friend and I are in disagreement as to what this cat is.
I say bobcat, given the short looking tail.
My friend is convinced it‘s a lion and its tail is just off to one side and not visible in the pic.

I can’t offer much information other than this is the only pic available, and the pic was apparently taken in NY.


What say you?

Bobcat.

The lack of a long tail is hard to dismiss as being to the side and therefore out of the picture. The muscle tone of the front legs and chest suggests that the animal is reasonably small and not terribly powerful. Although it is frequently hard to judge the size of an animal in a picture, the cat appears to be rather close to the plants in the background. Using those plants and the leaves at it's feet, you can guess that it is 12-16" at the withers. It would be nice to be able to see more detail, but I think the ears look rather short as well.

Not such a far fetched idea. A lot of pics I've seen in the last 5 yrs or so and the one bobcat I've seen myself live were very large to be bobcats but all had the bobbed tail and the tufts on the side of the face but were unusually large.

Bobcat. I saw one just outside of Binghamton University last Monday evening. Good size too......30lbs I estimate. Scurrying up an embankment after crossing the road in front of me.
