Hey guys, I'm really happy for the new forum and I hope we can all make it grow to have the same family atmosphere we had at the other place. With that being said I'm going to try to put some focus in this specific forum as Im passionate about training. I will look to post good articles that I read and videos that I have personally found helpful in my training.

Competition is something I would also love to get into but that will take me a little bit more time until my boys get older. I would also like to try to arrange more frequent.

I know we have a wealth of information with the membership. I will be looking to reach out to other people that we all know who also have a lot of knowledge to share and I encourage everyone else to do so.

If you can't, check out OnSight Firearms Training. They mostly do classes at Blue Mountain, but they rent out the Police Ranges and no one bothers you. They're small classes, I think 12 max, for 1-3 instructors depending on the day/class. Ben the owner is a really cool guy too

We provided a 2 day private tactical pistol class for a group of NYPD anti-crime officers from the Bronx after they got in a gunfight and felt under trained. We have trained soldiers, law enforcement - patrol, detective, swat, corrections, nuclear security guards as well as responsible citizens.

You can start the kids competition shooting earlier than many think.

I got my butt kicked at a major 3 gun match by a 12 year old!

My son started shooting a single shot 410 shotgun when he was 8. We started him bird hunting in the field where he learned safety and proper gun handling, and within 2 years he was competing in ATA in Trap and Sporting clays. it wasn't long before he started competing in USPSA pistol and Regional 3 Gun matches with rifle, pistol and shotgun.

Self defense and competition training are different, but there are competitions like IDPA which focus on self defense skills, reloading behind cover, slicing the pie, etc.

Competition shooting has taught me how to draw and acquire sights under pressure. Once that buzzer goes off you experience the stress and tunnel vision, and realize for the first time that shooting while moving and processing everything while it's happening is much more challenging than you would ever expect, you don't want to find that out for the first time when it really counts. It quickly becomes apparent just how important consistent training, dry fire exercises, and muscle memory really are. It will also help you manage malfunctions under pressure, and you will learn what you can expect from your performance under different conditions and scenarios, and adjust your training accordingly.

Depends on when you want to do this. This time of year one day works best for me. In the winter 2 days are not a problem. Intermediate to advanced pistol is my preference.

You're playing to geographically wide audience here. Where would this take place? I know many here in Westchester are interested.

Advanced pistol, drawing from concealment, firing behind cover, weak and strong single hand shooting, shooting while moving, longer distance shooting say 15 yards or so, etc..

Im attanding a class with mdts today, so i wont have the funds to attend another class until after the new year. But id definitely enjoy running a class with you clowns, and Ken instructing.

So my 1 Day Concealed Carry Skill Development class is exactly what you guys are spelling out. Doing one day classes, I prefer to do them on a Saturday - IF, we do them at the Blue Mountain Sportsman Center in Westchester County - reason being is the hours are semi-restrictive there. You can only go hot 9-3 Monday through Friday, 10-4 on Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday. So Sunday, we loose one hour of training. This is why I usually only teach 2 day classes or 4 hour skill builder classes if I teach on Sundays at Blue Mountain. This is also why I have people bring a lunch and we take a short break in place and as soon as everyone is done eating, we get back at it.

A few people mentioned force on force. I have 2 on the schedule for 2017 in Putnam County - 1 is only 6 months away. If you are interested in that class, just know they sell out, so the closer we get to the date, the faster it will sell out. The first one we did this year sold out in less than 24 hours if I remember correctly. So we ended up doing a second one the following weekend and that one sold out in about 48 hours. Below is the info on the Concealed Carry Skill Development Class - it is a 1 day format and it is a modified version of our 1 day pistol class and centers around real world concealed carry. Again, my preference would be to do it on a Saturday at Blue Mountain UNLESS someone has another range/gun club location for us to use. Once I have an idea of how many people would be interested in this particular class AND doing it on a Saturday, I will try and see what dates are available and let you guys know. So just reply with "I'm in". If you have another range/gun club that we could use on a Sunday that we can go hot for more than 5 hours, let us know.

Hours would be 9:30-4:00 and cost is: $180

This class features holster selection, clothing discussion, and reality-based live fire drills with one-on-one assessments and corrective action as needed. Designed to transition the participant from static live fire and basic movement to advanced defensive tactics from seated, vehicle, and “Getting Off The X” drills using the pistol; shooters will be guided through weapons manipulation drills designed to increase comfort level and develop a solid base of skill. Skill Drills will include drawing from concealment; seated & in vehicle positions ensuring shooters will leave with the knowledge, skills, and ability to survive and prevail in a deadly force encounter.

Physical requirements: For all tactical classes, students must be able to run short distances & be capable of standing for long periods.
