transferring a pistol from deceased relative? Procedure?

curiosity my wife just asked a good question will have to ask the FFL...But when she xfer alls semi auto rifles ( forgot about hat good point) and the pistols will he charge 1 xfer fee or ONE FOR EACH GUN............

he has semi auto a/rs I think too need to find out if any evil features on them or what.......

Each dealer charges different. The AR's can also be brought in as Parts (taken apart) so they can assess if they need to be modified to NYS requirements prior to transferring should they be put back together. But that too depends on the FFL. Worse case, you can take the uppers off (not really regulated and they aren't serials) have them assess the lowers (Pin the mags). But again, depends on your FFL. The Kalikey is an awesome compliance technique for anyone in the area of "Not so sure". Kali Key - The drop in Bolt Action AR solution (removes the first requirement of Semi-auto from the definition). The issue is the State doesn't have a way for people like yourself to do the "Right Thing" to get the right answer and solution. The Safe Act desk will only say "No you can't because they are technically felons".

ok so looking into getting my semi auto RIFLE permit....jeez permit for everyting.......do I need to do my fingerprints again!!

I say that as its the same application as the Pistol and the instructions talk about finger prints...I didnt think you needed fingerprints for the semi auto rifle permit. I did think Id be acquiring anymore as I have my savage 22....what more do I need!! but here I am............apply for yet another permit.... Thanks again for all he advice.

"Most" normal counties made it identical as the pistol permit process. You may as well get your Pistol CC at the same time; it's worth it.

If you already have a pistol permit your county clerk should just add the semi-auto to your license at least that's what they did here in Wayne county.

Sorry, but that is one thing I will absolutely refuse.
With all the rumors out there about how LE keeps stuff they like or makes it hard to get it back I will never let them take possession of a family members firearms. If they want to escort me to a nearby FFL while I retain possession of the firearms, fine.
With enough advanced notice any firearms in the house will be moved to an FFL or, if necessary, shipped off to a friend out of state until things are settled.

And FUKH can go screw if she thinks I'm going to bother with background checks on long guns. Since those aren't registered anyway they'll never know what is there.

His mother worked for the county court judge, got her permit amended in a day or so, and still had a hard time getting the guns back from the NYSP.

I had a relative shoot themselves in the head. Guns also gone before the body.

I pick them up from all agencies locally here all the time. I've had few issues. In one case the magazines disappeared, but that has been the only real hiccup. The folks in these counties to include the NYSP barracks are very supportive and HATE having to take them.

FFL DOES NOT KNOW............will and tell the relatives to call the sheriff for the pistols.

In the particular case I referenced............ IN ONEIDA COUNTY, call Dan Sullivan the PPO, or an FFL...YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS IN THIS STATE TO CARRY PISTOLS YOU DO NOT OWN......ANYWHERE.

Get stopped on the way by cops? Explain that.

Some pistols get lost right away.............sometime "stops" are made to the FFL.
People are generally dishonest, if given a chance to seemingly avoid NYS laws.

As an FFL, I PICK THEM UP from the residence with the deceased permit. NO, I do not recommend an unpermitted person transporting. That could get you in trouble. HOWEVER, if you have a NYS permit, have legal access to the firearms, they are registered on the deceased permit, you are legal to transport them to an FFL for safe storage until a transfer is agreed upon by the executor.

TRY TO GET A DEATH CERTIFICATE.....................for a dead friend..........not!!

Funeral Director gets around to it generally within 2 weeks as the Town has to issue it, and certified copies may be required................and sends it to SS and the fam.

If the FFL you select to bomb in on......... would even ever accept such evidence...............and also say, as my LGS says........." I am not a Lawyer".......".call the sheriff and have them pickup the pistols"......or he says "wait a sec, I'll have the sheriff come right over as you cannot possess these pistols and neither can I."

LE WILL BE INVOLVED ON PISTOLS, BELIEVE ME, and Probate Court.

You should not issue false info for a situation you have likely never experienced recently.
