Transfers into New York

How does this work ? A lady that was my next door neighbor here moved to Arizona a few years ago. Once there, she got a Arizona carry permit and bought a pistol. Now she decided that she wants to move back here, and asked me what she needed to do.

I told her that she could sell her gun down there, then upon re-establishing residency here, she could apply for a permit and then buy a new gun once she got the permit. Her other option is to have her gun shipped from a FFL down there to a FFL up here. Then I could put it on my permit and hold it until she gets her permit, then transfer it back to her.

Is that right ? Is there any other way ?

I know that she would like to bring it with her in the car when she moves, but as soon as she gets here, she's illegal.

Tell her to stay in Arizona .

But yes, she can "sell" it to you, transfer from AZ to the FFL of your choice. Put it on your permit. If/when she ever gets hers, transfer it back to her through the FFL

She's done with Arizona. She got rear ended by a hit&run (most likely illegal) and injured. Then she lost her job because of the injury. Her daughter was the only reason she moved, and now she wants to move back to be with her lifelong friends. She got a job offer up here, which kind-of sealed the deal.

The only way you can get it on your permit is for it to be received by an FFL in NY. If she brings it here that can't happen, she can't walk into a dealer here with it and turn it over. She'd have to send it back to AZ to someone there and have them ship it from FFL there to FFL here. Aint NY grand?

She can transport it right to the NY border legally.

But once she crosses into the state she's illegal until she has a permit. No way around that.

Unless she swaps a 16" barrel on it and adds a stock LOL.
