I understand they can legally travel through all states (avoiding NYC of course) but what about the ammo?

The more I read, the more I am inclined to recommend carrying solid nose and not JHP. FOR EXAMPLE, traveling through NJ would be bad news if discovered.

I make the trip. I follow the Federal laws for transporting the firearms, Your in the state's your not licensed for a few hours its just not worth the cost associated with trying to defend your actions if you have a run in with a LEO .

As we all know the goal is to disarm us one person and one gun at a time, Please done become the soft target they want you to become.

If you want to carry the whole time, you need to avoid New Jersey and Maryland. And possibly South Carolina if you do not have their permit.

I do not have a Florida license, i use Pennsylvania. So I’m not familiar with the Carolinas. So check the Carolinas.

When I drive down to Virginia I run on 81 and I only have to take my gun off for the 10 miles in Maryland.

Hollow point ammunition is bullshit in New Jersey. It is not not not not not not illegal to possess hollowpoint ammunition in New Jersey.

Do yourself a favor and tell "him

" to take I84 to Scranton or whichever way you can get to Scranton and connect with I 81S. You'll only go through PA, a piece of MD for only 10 minutes, West Virginia, and Virginia, While in Virginia it turns into I 77 S. That goes into North Carolina and South Carolina. I 26 E in South Carolina bring you back on to 95 S.

I go this route almost every year. There are no tourists on it, no tolls, and the rest stops are immaculate. It's a beautiful countryside drive too.

It's 2 hours longer out of the way but you actually save that time because there is no traffic and the extra fuel is cheaper than the 50 bucks you'll pay in tolls on 95 S.

It's really easy. My old parents come up that way too to see me. They said it takes longer time on 95 S because of the traffic you hit in Virginia, DC, and Jersey.

You will be legal everywhere except 10 minutes in Maryland and South Carolina. In South Carolina you can carry loaded in a glovebox.

Yep. SC doesn't honor non resident permits but allows you to carry in your in your glove box.

South Carolina Code Section 16-23-20

says “It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not, except as follows, unless otherwise specifically prohibited by law:”

Subsection (9) provides the vehicle exception and allows a person to carry a handgun in a vehicle if the handgun is:

(a) secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance;

What Willjr75 said. Have done it for years. Go inland, save drive and serve time! When I was a Florida resident I used to go back and forth between Buffalo and Florida all the time. SC with a Resident Florida permit was good then but I had to leave it in PA with a friend before entering the occupied territories of the Empire Strikes Back State. Nowadays I have a resident AZ permit and can travel to FL and back, no problem. Same to AZ, except for the couple of hours in Ill-a-noise, land of the "no guns, take your life in your hands, you're probably gonna die state."
Now the ammo dealybob thing, load with fmj in a couple of mags, deep hide the hollowpoints, and keep yer nose clean until you clear chubby's state.
