Whenever you are ready brother. I welcome friends and others all the time, only condition for non family members, is we go there with me. You prob wouldnt be able to find it without me anyway, lol.
I agree, these "dangerous" deer need to be dealt with. Its for the public safety of us all, we will be doing a great service for the state of NY. In fact, not only are there COVID spreading deer, but there is also COVID spreading black bears, coyote, bobcat, turkey, pheasant, grouse, and many others that need to be dealt with.
Plus, dont let me get started on the infestation of chipmunks. We may need nuclear technology for them. On a serious note, EVERY time i have gone onto or left the property, except once which happened to be 2 weeks ago, i have seen a deer. Either i startled one, and pushed it out, from driving into the land, or there is one randomly walking thru, or i have seen herds of more than 10 running through. The best was, one time we were leaving for the night and not coming back for a few weeks, so i was chaining up my chain gate that prevents anyone from entering, and setting up my wooden saw horse with "no trespassing" signs at the foot of the road. It was pitch black, and maybe 10 o clock at night. as i was about to get back into my car and leave, i heard a rustling behind me.
I turn around, and shine my flashlight into the eyes of a nice medium sized black bear. It was about 20 to 30 feet from me, with some trees and normal brush in between us. I think we were BOTH a bit startled by each other. It happened so quick, but he put his head down after a few seconds of staring at each other, and went about uninterested. Needless to say, i walked the few feet into my car, and drove away, leaving him behind.
I still wonder a few things, like how long was he there. Was he watching me the whole time that i was chaining my gate, and resetting my saw horse block? Or did he happen to walk up right when i saw him? I wonder what i would have done if i saw him BEFORE i chained my gate and set the blockade? Would i have had the balls to continue to do that, knowing there is a few hundred pound carnivore 30 feet away, lol? I DO KNOW that if i had any firearm or my shotgun in hand, for whatever reason, i would NEVER be able to shoot it. Its just not in my DNA, unless of course it was coming at me to attack. If it was a human, trespassing, poaching, or being aggressive, then YES i could pull that trigger, NOT a bear or deer, chipmunks are fair game though.

I got it in a tree yesterday. It’s surrounded by deer trails and a little clearing right below me. A creek and water surrounds it at least in part and there is a logging road about parallel with my eyes. There are wild apples trees dotted all around it with a few oaks scattered in there. I think I hit a good spot.
Here is a large deer track I found close by on the logging road. It’s about the palm of my hand in length. Also a cow wandered from the pasture up top of the hill and was caught on my game camera. Funny the deer do the same.

Seems like a nice spot, hopefully the game cam will see some good deer to get you psyched for opening day.
Look into installing some type of skirt around the stand to keep you hidden after the leaves drop, so you won't be sky lined.

Thanks for the thought on skylined. So I’m a bit new at this so the hill drops down pretty fast so I would think the deer would be looking down. Also plenty of tree and branches around to break me up I would think? Also I’ll be against a large tree as big as my chest around.
I suppose they could see me as they are coming off the field that the cows share.

I told my dad that I was likely to shoot it. He told me no don’t shoot his cows he’s only got 10 or so and would know. I said he eats them anyway right? They aren’t milkers.

Apparently he just lets them run around. The cows were out again so my dad went and told the guy. The response was oh they will find there way back. I was like seriously? Of course my dad said oh I don’t care but thought you’d want to know. I don’t really want them blowing up my deer spot. I’m not sure I’d shoot one but I guess I wouldn’t put it past me to have a beefer instead of a deer.
