That's relative. I you put the amount of powder that it needs divided by performance
then you will realize the gunner is a lot more efficient. The gunner is so simple
vs. something a lot more involved for such little gain. And the gunner uses x39 and grendel
magazines double stack to full capacity so it has a lot more firepower per magazine.
For the 35 I have another one that is even larger than any of these two but I don't think
it is fun to shoot from a AR. Too much recoil and nothing around to shoot or hunt
that deserves that kind of power.
That is why I think the 35 gunner is so fun yet effective. I think something that is so easy
to form and reload contributes to that fun factor too.

ammo is available it is so expensive unless one looks at the usual suspects that are
the x39, 6.5Grendel and 6.8spc. Also the 5.45x39 but that doesn't make much sense
with the 5.56 available. So either those or a popular pistol caliber like the @Bullet Guy was
saying or then consider reloading one of the thumpers if that is what you want.
But if you are going to be reloading anyway then look at some of the wildcats that
give more for less.
It is like the 6x45 and 6m TCU. They are so easy to reload that a caveman can do it
and they are so affordable even more than the 223 and give so much in return w/o
investment.
Everyone is different. IMHO these are things just to keep in mind.
What about a carbine in 10mm or 9x25 dillon? You have commercial ammo for both.

I will eventually reload when I get my stuff setup to offset the cost but who knows when that will be. So being able to buy over the counter for now is a huge benefit.

I am not sure what setup means but for one caliber or two you can put all you need inside a shoe box.
Think about it, even if one's time is worth at lawyers fees one will be saving money anyway.
The smallest press in the market screwed to a piece of 2x4 will pay by itself with the first 2 boxes of ammo.

Setup means that I have a brand new Redding t7 and Hornady powder measure new in the box I got a few years ago. Never set them up yet due to lack of space to do so. I would still need other things to use them though too.

Lmao. Well you know you could kinda say that.
It’s kinda a tossup in my head between 450 bushmaster and 458 socom. Horrible decision to have to make.

Making one is really so simple and then you are not dependent on anyone for parts.
But they also sell a very basic kit if you want. Cut BCGs alre also out there...
I agree, some folks might like something in pencil/light profile with a foldable tube/stock for backpacking.
The remington 7615 will also take a foldable stock and takes AR mags. There are aftermarket bolt heads in
different sizes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for the BCG, wouldn't the only thing you need to do is reinforce the gas key so it operates more like a piston than a DI.

There is no need to reinforce it but I would stack the key screws or at least blue locktite them. They will not move. The gas key is replaced by the one with the connecting rod. The system is really simple. The only thing is one might want to implement a locking sear that releases with recoil so one doesn't force the round out of battery by mistake. Just like the real pumps.

I think 450 Bushmaster is going to win. Its cheaper than 458 SOCOM and more common in the stores, its faster and has more energy. Only thing I do not like is its more of a pistol bullet instead of rifle bullet and sometimes does not feed as well as the 458.

My troy par is Currently chambered in 458 socom, has been for almost 2 years. If you go this direction, you will need to expand the ejection port. If you have any questions, let me know. I suspect it will soon get a 20" 6.5 Grendel barrel and bolt. It started life as a 300blk.
