Trump Returns Salute from North Korean General

Cnn is making a big deal about this. I support his salute. It's was a sign of respect from the North Korean General to salute our President and a sign of respect for our President to return the salute back to him.

What was Trump thinking when he saluted a North Korean general?

I always thought, in the military, an inferior soldier saluted first, the superior soldier returned the salute. So trump did the right thing.

Unlike when the coward in chief bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, and then to the PM of Japan. Trump never bowed to no one

In Trump's case, he's nothing more than a businessmen. Thank god he's not a politician. So in his view I'd be willing to bet it's more of a form of being respectful.

As Commander in Chief of the military, I don't think returning a salute is out of line - either to our military or any other.

Either way, I do not think the civilian commander in chief of US armed forces should be saluting foreigners- whether ally or adversary. Nor vice versa. Strikes me as weird.

I was taught to salute foreign allied officers. There is nothing wrong with that. What Trump did was RETURN a salute. A superior officer returns a salute. He doesn't initiate it. Trump did nothing wrong.

A salute is just a greeting of respect to a superior in the US military, OR a show of respect to members of foreign militaries.
Being a civilian, the POTUS is not required to salute but may do it as a sign of respect.
Many foreign militaries see it as disrespectful to not salute.

We had a Major who insisted on being saluted whether you were in uniform of not, or even if you were busy and your hands were busy.
