Anyone have any thoughts on this case?
On one hand, he did disobey a military order. That can't just be let go, otherwise there will be no respect for the chain of command.
Still, on the other, he didn't just kill a random civilian. There was strong evidence this guy was building bombs, and strong evidence he would leak the identity of tribal leaders working with US forces to the Taliban, and the military turned a blind eye to it and still wanted to let the bomb maker go. It wasn't like the threat that was perceived was unfounded either by this guy.
Maybe pardon him, but strip him of his medals, is the happy medium here? Definitely has complexities to either decision.
