Donald Trump, who received five deferments from the Vietnam war draft, has angered military veterans by wearing a flight jacket and an admiral's cap during a visit aboard an aircraft carrier.

The president sported the olive military jacket and hat during a tour of the new Gerald R. Ford carrier in Newport News, Virginia, as he pledged to boost defence spending.

The jacket and hat, which was personalised with the words "POTUS 45" on the back, were a gift from the crew.​

I don't quite know how to take that. I'm not a vet, but if the crew gave him a personalized set, then I'd say he should wear it to honor them and to show his gratitude. I get the anger though, given the lack of service. Some may call that stolen valor of a type, but I don't think this is that serious, is it?

The commander and chief accepted a gift from active service members. The whiney snowflakes that have a problem with that should melt in their own tears under a blankey in their safe space. Here, here, to the President. Over the last two presidential terms, thousands of brave volunteers toasted the previous commander and chief and stayed honorable by keeping their contempt private. A vet who publicly whines about this trite issue abandons their honor. Long live the Commander in Chief.

had he told someone to get him a cap and the aviator jacket to wear, maybe I can see being a little pissed off. Given that he was given the jacket/cap by the crew I don't see what they are getting their panties in a bunch over. Would have been pretty shitty not to wear it. I take issue with people wearing rank insignia that they didn't earn, but as Commander and Chief, he is above the rank of Admiral so I am not seeing what the big deal is.

Absolutely correct. As a retired lifer I can assure all that no real veteran resents Trump wearing that uniform. After all he is the Commander in Chief.

Back in 91, I was stationed at Ft Bliss. President Bush spent a few hours and n post. I was lucky, he chose our mess hall to have lunch in. We sat a few tables from where I was sitting; upon arrival, he was given a jacket as well. It had a few unit patches and post slogans on it. Me, I was honored that he was wearing our patches.

This people who are complaining, if there really are any, can kiss this vets ass!
