For the most part, I have very little use for most that say they are a qualified firearms instructor. I have watched some groups' videos on line and thought "What a Joke". I have been to a couple of different classes and have walked out more confused than anything. My favorite "Instructors" are those who were Contractors oversees. Big F'en deal...
This video hits, I think, all of the points to be made. I'll use myself as an example.
I have 25 years in the Army. Does not qualify me.
I have a total of about 12 years or so LEO. Does not qualify me.
I am a rather good shot, both pistol as well as long gun. Does not qualify me.
In the Army, I was a Firearms instructor at unit level. Does not qualify me.
Sure, I would be a great shooting partner to a new shooter; I taught my wife, and three sons how to shoot.
I have assisted people at different ranges in the past. Some of those people, with my help, got really good.

No matter what subject is taught, not every instructor is a good instructor, or lives the subject they teach. My father had a saying, "Learn one thing every day" . Learn something from every person you can, but make your own decisions, make rules for you.

who qualified the qualified who qualified the qualified ect .. was someone just born as a qualified instructor to qualify the rest ? LOL ..

It takes more that knowing the source material to teach. Sadly I also think shooting is much like riding a bike. Once the training wheels come off and your on your own most skill development comes from practice.
Knowledge of the source material doesn't mean you're qualified or capable of teaching it.
@GOPerfect my favorites are the wealthy tactical Timmy's who have gone to so many classes they think they are qualified to teach.

Much like a college degree only proves you can meet the prerequisites laid out in front of you.
Great video, John is a solid dude and a good person to sit and talk to.
I agree with everything he says and i preach this daily. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
@GOPerfect nailed it on the head. One of my biggest pet peeves, "i was in the military i dont need a pistol course to get my permit" or "i can instruct people". GTFO 10% of the military carries handguns. I can say on the team i was on we had handguns (glocks) but it doesn't qualify me to be an instructor. Also the contracting thing, ugh.... There are so many turds who make it through the fence in the PC world that can barely qual and then get the boot and a few months later they have their own instructional business.
NRA and USCCA piss me off, that literally means nothing. I am a NRA LEO instructor and i learned nothing in their LEO courses all it does is give me the ability to show departments and units the piece of paper that says i can "teach them".
It comes down to time behind the trigger and never loosing the ability to learn something new on the daily. I am constantly trying to get in training with other reputable companies in between my curriculum and schedule.
The world is not static so you shouldnt be either, get out there and learn something new.
