I'm not going to get wound up about what the media claims it says.
A quick skim of the actual order doesn't seem to be anywhere near what the media claim it is.
It acknowledges that on it's own burning a flag is a protected activity. But when conducted as part of another crime or as a threat for instance they should throw the book at the offender.
I'm OK with that. Immediate threats have never been protected activity. And arson isn't suddenly OK just because you throw a flag on the fire.

No, even that back pedal doesn't cut it. It's blatantly clear the pandering he's doing with this. The right loses all concept of what the 1A is when they don't agree with things.
We already have laws against, as you say, arson and similar illegal acts. No need whatsoever for this chest thumping crap.
It's right up there with "hate crimes/speech."
If it makes the punishment even 1% more severe, that means, necessarily. that you are being punished for the speech you find distasteful.
Let me know when those on this forum would be as willing to digest this same law with the LGBTQ crosswalk paintings. "Well that burnout you did will now became double illegal because you did it on a rainbow flag. " Come on, let's be honest here.

We all know that in the past people would have gotten a pass on many of those crimes if they involved the right speech.
This is un-doing that.
Threats *should* be punished. You *shouldn't ever* have gotten a pass because you were burning a flag instead of a cross.
It has been fashionable on the left to hate America for quite a while now.
Many prosecutors were willing to look the other way on criminal conduct if it involved fashionable speech.
The odious hate speech laws are *actual laws* that add *additional penalties* for that speech.
This EO does nothing like that. It basically just says "no more looking the other way just because they're making a fashionable statement when they commit the crime".
