Isn’t team leader lvl ssg?
The only thing the .45 has over the 9mm is a .451 diametered wound track straight through both sides of a chest compared to a .355 diametered wound track straight through both sides of a chest.Better to have, than need, and have not!
ROE may dictate operational criteria, and the paper manuals, plans, rules all go out the window once the boots hit the dirt and when an enemy is trying to kill "YOU"... You don't shoot to wound, maybe a sniper could, but you certainly aren't going to try that shit while engaged with the enemy. A dead enemy can't fight, period, and any engagement, is a war of attrition. So... Shoot to kill! That said, it leaves then the 9mm round suspect as to its selection. There's a reason why the Ol' .45 was used for how many wars?... Yes, you can sit and argue all you want about ballistic tests and gelatin, but the .45 worked and did it's job! 9mm is a shit round IMO, and it's just my opinion! I also don't have any issues spending money keeping our troops armed with what may be considered the best! I just wish the army and Armed Forces in general via our Federal Gov't would spend as much for caring for our soldiers who have served through the VA, as they do on new fangled toys! We are #1 in defense spending inthe world and far outpace our closest competitor, ie, China, but spend little competitively on after-care!

There aren't any other factors in play in regards the bullet itself except for barrier penetration which the 9mm has an edge on.
The same performance would be relevant if the Thompson was originally chambered in 9mm like it was in Europe with the MP40.Because the 9mm has as much field performance as the .45 right? Guess that's why the Thomson was a mistake as well (.45)...? It's performance was proven too! I stand by my opinion that the 9mm is a shit round! Size means nothing (diameter)!
Depends on what ROE are forced upon the troops by administration bureaucrats in Washington.
But to your point, you're correct...theory and reality don't always coincide. Of course you want to stop the enemy. A dead enemy will not fight. A wounded enemy may not fight. Certainty would be at a premium in combat.
In any case, I've got zero actual military training. So, I'll defer to experts.
How so? Does it explode in the body or does it just punch through and make a hole it's own size just like any other pistol bullet?I'm all for engineering studies, shooting jello molds and the like, but sometimes no matter how thorough the testing, it gets trumped by reality. That fat, slow moving .45 is more effective for its given purpose than the 9mm or the .40. The average chick can't handle it, so.....................

As does any other caliber that goes above a certain FPS to push the bullet to penetrates both sides of a body along with vital organs.Sometimes efficacy defies explanation. It just works and works well.
