To be fair hand built doesn’t mean reliable. It
Might even mean less reliable. I have and have had few hand built 1911’s. Some are great others are not. I would argue looser tolerances on a Ruger are many times more reliable than the hand built guns out of the box.

That's why I'm guessing 1911s and I'm going to guess probably night hawk or dan wesson or one of the other high end 3-5,000 per gun 1911.

I'm going to guess that they really wanted to go to a double stack 9mm and well STI that's their bread and butter already had a leg up on the competition, tweaked and improved some of their models and that's how they got the contract

And being grumpy about the price is the only issue that matters. If a private citizen wants to spend that much, okay. His prerogative. His money. But when it comes to tax dollars paying for it that at the end of the day, it’s just a sidearm. I’m not okay with that. Top tier Operators from around the world do just fine Glocks, HK’s, etc. Hell. Top competition shooters also do just fine with Glocks with custom drop in triggers and milled slides.

It isn’t like getting this will make the difference in a mission being completed versus not being completed.
