Also, regardless of whether these tactical teams are composed of "wannabe's" the fact remains that they are LE and they do occasionally go into harm's way on our behalf...based on that alone, they deserve to spend a little bit more on gear and guns than the average joe. I'm sure the Marshal's overall budget is quite limited compared to most SF and combat arms type units.

By that logic, the NYSP and the NYPD should spend even more on a pistol since they actually use pistols as primary weapons and actually have more rounds on target on criminals than a SWAT officer would ever have on a criminal using a pistol. You can add the militaries around the world to that list as well.

Basic common sense and what I’ve seen in the military. Swat teams just don’t go storming into a house performing CQB with pistols only. The same goes for special operations units in the military. They just don’t do raids to extract hostages or apprehend high value targets from dwellings all kitted up with vests, helmets, and battering rams with pistols.

Hell. Even departments that do not have SWAT teams don’t use pistols when a no knock warrant is issued and they break down the door going on hot. They use AR’s and shotguns and their pistols remain in their holsters unused.

If you are raiding a house or transporting a high profile prisoner (special Leo unit tasks) you don’t take a pistol as a primary.

Not by much. M24’s can be had pretty cheap anymore. But the point is you spend money on a primary when needed, nit a secondary in special units.

Regular beat cops should get better handguns since it’s their primary just like the sniper should have his AR configured with a 1x6 heavy bull barrel, match grade components, and match grade 77 grain ammunition and regular cops in their cars should get regular milspec M4’s with regular Hornady Tap ammo.

How about I state my dissatisfaction for both fiscal spending and this issue? It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

And the issue of whether this 1911 is better is subjective. Take me for example. A single stack Glock feels to thin in my hand for controlling recoil but a double stack is slightly thick due to my short fingers. A 1911 feels the best in my hand but I shoot a Glock 26 with a pinky dangle more accurately than all.

If it’s better and all 50 somewhat officers shoot it better than anything else, then it would be a statement of fact that all officers have the same sized hands and have the same proficiency levels and all officers have personal double stack 1911’s and none have a Sig P320 or anything else off duty because they like how they shoot. It would also be a statement of fact that all officers like that they are going with a 9mm instead of the .45.

The fact of the matter is that the chief chose this weapon because he likes the 1911 platform. If someone like me made chief, I’d choose a Glock despite what 10 guys out of 50 told me. That just happened recently with the Secret Service. A past chief was a .357 Sig Aficionado and the current chief doesn’t care enough to keep the caliber and went with a 9. I’m sure there are plenty of agents that disagree with his choice and prefer to keep the .357. It isn’t a unanimous decision.

You can see that point within the SOG officers themselves. Some are minimalists that don’t have every dodad in multicam hanging off them and some have every stinking piece possible hanging off them like that tubby guy in the pictures above.

I’m quite sure that not all of them are happy that they have a red dot now and some prefer just plain irons. They are people just like us. Not robots.
