So I previously only skimmed the article, I saw the announcement prior to this and really didnt care and what not.. but wanted to see if they listed the sti price here in the article.


Anyways Just skimmed it again and looks like SOG was previously running Springfield Armory pro-rail 1911 .45ACP (as previously mentioned a few times... msrp being $3,465, but not red dot option from factory, and 6-9 rounds of .45acp vs 21 of 9mm)

Also the evaluation pistols all had around 15,000 round put thought them with no issues.. sounds pretty unreliable and temperamental to me.

Next let's talk about how wasteful the extra money on the finish is.. the guns came from factory blued and the agent's were talking about rust issues after a few days (being in Louisiana) so different finish was added, along with ambi safeties.

And now the kicker.. and I quote

As we sit right now from the development of that gun that was done jointly with the Marshals and other guys, we’re now in over 60 departments in 19 states selling that model specifically,” said Pierson. “So, what we ended up developing for [the USMS] as their go-to-gun has now been our primary production model for all of law enforcement.

And to top it all off
Interestingly, although the platform is offered in both .45ACP and 9mm, most agencies have elected to go with the latter.

So it's weird that the article talks about other police agencies buying these (100 year old designs that were designed in 2011) guns and fielding them along with SOG

Yeah very weird. Kind of like how it was weird when 10 years ago it was the bee’s knees to get a .40. 15000 rounds. Impressive. Much more reliable than any other gun.

And the issue of whether this 1911 is better is subjective. Take me for example. A single stack Glock feels to thin in my hand for controlling recoil but a double stack is slightly thick due to my short fingers. A 1911 feels the best in my hand but I shoot a Glock 26 with a pinky dangle more accurately than all.

If it’s better and all 50 somewhat officers shoot it better than anything else, then it would be a statement of fact that all officers have the same sized hands and have the same proficiency levels and all officers have personal double stack 1911’s and none have a Sig P320 or anything else off duty because they like how they shoot. It would also be a statement of fact that all officers like that they are going with a 9mm instead of the .45.

The fact of the matter is that the chief chose this weapon because he likes the 1911 platform. If someone like me made chief, I’d choose a Glock despite what 10 guys out of 50 told me. That just happened recently with the Secret Service. A past chief was a .357 Sig Aficionado and the current chief doesn’t care enough to keep the caliber and went with a 9. I’m sure there are plenty of agents that disagree with his choice and prefer to keep the .357. It isn’t a unanimous decision.

You can see that point within the SOG officers themselves. Some are minimalists that don’t have every dodad in multicam hanging off them and some have every stinking piece possible hanging off them like that tubby guy in the pictures above.

I’m quite sure that not all of them are happy that they have a red dot now and some prefer just plain irons. They are people just like us. Not robots.

You're getting too wrapped around the axle on this one...but maybe that's exactly why you post on this forum.

No one is saying the 1911 is better....

You also have absolutely no idea why the Marshals chose this weapon over that. Look, you can keep up with this armchair expert commentary, but just understand...that's all it is. No one gives a crap what you think on this...least of all the Marshals.

They must think it is enough to choose it and pay thousands of dollars over a 500 dollar gun and those here that defend them must think it is if they keep saying over and over that a team like them need a gun like that over one that costs about 7 times less.

It must be miles better. If not, then they chose it and paid 3000 plus dollars more per gun for a paint job.

So now if five more police departments purchase military personnel carriers, it makes it right. When they replace their uniform for multi cam and four more others follow suit, it will be okay because numbers now dictate necessity.
