If they really wanted to they could do it now. Another reason I am vehemently opposed to things likes laws against "hate speech" and such. It has nothing to do with protecting people and all about controlling them.

I often think about that with things I post. Sometimes I will curb my thoughts for just this reason. Although other times I get so frustrated with the politicians that I just let things fly. My concern is that in the future they will connect your online activity to a database and deny you your rights based on "angry or aggressive" behavior online.

I always censor what I post online because of stuff like this. The main method I do it is by never using my real name. Of course, it's trivial for law enforcement to figure out who I am if they have a warrant, get my IP address, etc. I also fully anticipate pattern recognition in the future being able to automatically match markers in how I write and think between "anonymous" internet postings and things I may have associated with my real name (e.g. emails I write at gmail).
Never using facebook for political leanings and things along those lines is the best and most obvious step, but otherwise it's using names like "Blimey".
Since everything on the internet is forever, and we all have patterns to how we act online, eventually everything will be aggregated and we will be graded by algorithms along behavioral markers.
Another way to think of this is there are videos currently of criminals who have not been identified. The video lacks their face. But what it has is location, time, gait (gait being highly unique). Just as the advent of DNA allowed previously-unsolved crimes to be solved, so-too will more aggregation of video and better pattern recognition. The same will happen for text. I have a tendency to use certain words, start a lot of sentences with "of course", etc.
Just a matter of time.
As for the UK, though, well they have no constitution. They have no freedom of speech (any country with hate speech laws has no freedom of speech, by default). They already do not have much in the way of rights there. Our constitution is all we have separating us from this sort of thing.

All day and all night a significant number of low lifes park in the public street in front of my home and pirate my router to access the internet through my ISP. I fear they also stole my identity and masquerade as me on the internet. I heard there is a lot of that going around. I look at it a little differently. You can still vent your frustration and make your points. But it's the level of aggression that it's more important to be careful with in my opinion. It's saying certain things that could be misconstrued as threats. For instance I frequently say that I can't wait till Cuomo dies, and I phrase it specifically so that it can't be construed as I am planning to make it happen myself (and of course im not).
It's more a matter of being like a politician and choosing your words carefully at times. It sucks to even think about that, but I would rather get my point across even if it's tempered rather than worrying about having my rights removed from me and fighting to try to get them back.
And maybe I'm paranoid, but ever since my sign incident happened, my name, my face and everything else is already on the radar; so they know who I am.
Any and ALL "UK" comparatives to firearm ownership here in the U.S. is utterly ridiculous! There is no comparative as the UK does not have a Bill of Rights, nor does it guarantee Constitutional protections for its citizens. They are all "SUBJECTS" to the Crown!
