Ulster County Amendment Times

Haven't purchased a pistol in some time. I reserved one today. Last time I did it was same day. You walked in with the receipt, walked out with your ticket and went back to the LGS to do the paperwork and get your gun. Now it seems that a judge has to sign off on any additions. I've heard anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending in the judge you happen to get. Unfreakingbelieveable. Anyone in Ulster county gone through this recently and care to share how long it took?

If memory serves correct, the last one I did took 6 weeks. I believe my judge ( you always get the same one) only does them every so often so it depends on your timing.

I dropped my amendment off last Friday. The judge that signed off on my permit 11 years ago just retired so it is random. The lady said they have about 11 judges now but it could take 2-8 weeks. Pathetic.

You can thank Undersheriff Ken Jones and former County Clerk Annie Rabbit in Orange Co. for f-ing up the nice system Ulster and Sullivan had going. They are responsible.

Guys in Orange, keep this in mind when you see Jones' name on the primary ballot for Sheriff. There's a reason he didn't get the Republican endorsement - besides being a scumbag. Vote for Paul Arteta!

Tomorrow will be 7 weeks. Decided to drive over to the pistol dept. I was told that since my judge retired I had to be given a new one. My paper work made it over to the proper area March 29th. It took two fucking weeks to get assigned a new judge and it has been sitting on his desk since. Because of this now I am told it has only been 5 weeks as of tomorrow. The lady said the judge I was assigned is better than other judges but they add this into their other duties. She then said I'm not being penalized by the judge and he is not just sitting on it with nothing else to do. NOT BEING PENALIZED? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I'm being penalized just by having to go through this bullshit process. I didn't lash out at the woman as she is just a paper pusher. I asked her why it is this process now. She said that someone took advantage of judges signatures previously (what ever the hell that means) and that is why. WTF?!?! Again, give me one reason THAT MAKES SENSE (I know, I know) and what this is accomplishing or avoiding. Nice waste of an hour round trip since they don't answer their phone. Oh and get this, if the judge goes on vacation that time gets added on to the wait. I can't leave this shit stain of a state soon enough.

BTW, filed a complaint with the link in the post above. They said if they even can respond it won't be for at least 2-3 weeks. Seems like I sit and wait regardless.

The regional judicial bureaucracy that encompasses orange Sullivan and Ulster counties put the smackdown and wouldn't let pistol permit offices continue to issue amendments without the judges reviewing it.

That messed up the good thing Ulster and Sullivan counties had going, and sent Orange County back to where it was previously.

If you want to be a ball buster call the judges office and see what they have to say about it. The judges in Orange County have told me they turn around amendments within a day or so. I've also heard that from clerks who work for these judges.

Why would that effect Ulster? It never involved the judges when I originally got my permit to add a gun. That's almost like admitting to doing something wrong when it wasn't wrong at the time you were doing it if you get what I mean. If Ulster had the process of letting the permit department sign off on amendments why would what happened in Orange county even effect Ulster? I would imagine at the time Ulster county permit department wasn't pulling a fast on eon anyone. That was just how it was done.

It's my understanding that after Orange County played their games, the state organization that oversees the county courts got involved and told Ulster and Sullivan they were doing it wrong.

Another reason to go the 80% unserialized route. I know that they are "illegal" to sell in NYS via the cease and desist order issued by the NYS AG but just suppose you bought one, unserialized, out of state, like from JSD Supply which is not that far away...

They are getting better. I guess since the last addition I have the same judge so it brought down my wait time. Called today for my newest amendment. 3 weeks and a day. Of course the FFL is on vacation until Tuesday.
