KINGSTON, N.Y.— Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan's proposed 2021 budget includes pay raises ranging between 6.7% and 40.5% for 14 management and confidential employees.

How is a part time job 42 hours? Unless that's a 2 week pay period? If so that's a hell of a part time job for $89K a year.

70 hours per week at a 5 day work week is 14 hours/day. That seems high for a public defender. 35 hours per week at a 2 week pay period for $120K a year would be bullshit for taxpayers even without all the lost revenue the pandemic has created.

That's a 66% increase in hours but only 32% increase in pay. Law school does take quite a few years to get through and that salary seems reasonable to me for such a position. Top tier attorneys are prestigious law forms can obviously make many multiples of that, but they also sell their souls to the job.

I know plenty of lawyers.

60-100 hour weeks are the norm, not the exception.

But thats in a seven day week; it sounded like they were talking about 42 hours in two weeks?

Yep and now 70 hours/pay period, so presumably 8-5 with an hour lunch is their FT. I'd sooner take $120k/year and remember my kids' names. The big dogs making half a million a year are running themselves to death!

Someone said it was a 2 week pay period which means 35 hours per week for $120K a year.

Maybe they deserve a raise. Maybe not. Maybe some positions have been frozen at their rate for a while. Right now is not the time to be handing out taxpayer funded raises. The state had a $6 billion deficit before and is now double that. Thousands of people are still out of work but still have to find a way to pay taxes. Anyone that made $89K a year part time would be lucky to have that job. While I don't agree, at least the county gave others the raises instead of themselves unlike the scumbags running NY. Those asshats have no shame.
