Ulster County Permit Question/general question

Hi all, quick question about permitting. I am looking to buy a pistol for home only, perhaps CC down the road. Our sheriff requires a ridiculous notarized affidavit from 4 people who know you and attest to your good character. Is this for real?-for home and range use only? What if I don't want other people to know I own a pistol? I have more than a dozen pistols and long guns at my folk's house in western PA, and eventually would like to add them back to my NY permit. Am I missing something, as I read that for NY state only the PPB3 is required. I don't want the world to know I have a pistol in my house. Any light on this topic?

It isn't the Sheriff, it's the County. This was in place before the present Sheriff took office.

Being that it is Ulster County, your 4 references can be from anywhere ( Some Counties require references from same County only ) and can include pretty much anyone. (There are a couple of stipulations, such as the Sheriff himself and a couple others.)

This will be a pretty lengthy process such as it is with just about any County in NY but certainly shorter than some. The people in our Sheriff's office are great people to deal with and are usually pretty helpful.

I would just apply for the CC regardless if it just want it for home or not. The process will take the same amount of time. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
