Ulster Firearms - New gun shop open

This shop just opened last week. It was mentioned in another thread a few weeks ago. I just stopped by to check it out. Nice, clean small shop. Owner very friendly. So far has an assortment of rifles, handguns, ammo, accessories, etc. I hope the store does well as it is 3 minutes from my house. Stop by if you are in the area! Here is the FB page Ulster Firearms. Only 11 minutes from my place, so I'm sure as heck going to check it out when I get a chance.

I don't do much buying in shops these days (or really any buying at all due to being too poor) mainly because my buddy is an FFL out of his home; which is literally just around the corner. Online purchases, cheap transfer, and such short distance tends to be the most affordable option to enough of a degree that, much as I'd like to support local shops, that's the only way I can generally go. Still though, distance is a pretty big factor in that equation for various reasons, and online purchases are always a little bit scary simply because you don't get to really handle and inspect the item you're getting before plopping down the money.

This is by far the closest physical gun store location that's ever been to me, so I'm for sure going to see what they've got going on.

Hard to miss the red letters on white background sign that says Guns/Ammo from 9W. I'm sure it's enough to scare those with hoplophobia.

Actually it WAS enough! If you noticed, the sign has been moved to the actual building. Town said it was no bueno. I guess looking at rusted truck trailers is ok as long as the word GUN isn't involved!

anyway. I finally found this forum, I think through a post on the FB page. People call me Camm, I am friends with Ryan, the owner, and I help out when I'm not at my other job or doing some tedious housework! I met one of you but for the life of me I can't remember who and I apologize

I noticed that as far as the sign and thought it was weird just having that empty sign frame facing 9W both ways. I know the town supervisor. He's an ex Poughkeepsie detective and definitely with us. Will have to give him crap and find out the issue.

Yep, good to see you again Doc, always a pleasure. Nice to meet your boy too; he seemed like a nice young fella.

As for the shop, it was my first time checking it out and I've got only good things to say about the place and the people. I wound up sticking around for a good bit and talking about all sorts of stuff.
Even kind of made some 'someday' sort of tentative plans to maybe take some guns apart with one of the guys to trade smithing knowledge from our respective fields of expertise. That could be a lot of fun.

The owner also spoke of being very interested in becoming part of our community here, as well as offering help here if we could use it; which was extremely nice of him.

I work right down the road from there, it's taking everything in me not to stop lol. Not because I don't want too, but because I'll empty my wallet! I'm hoping to stop in soon when I have a couple extra bucks. I've heard great things as well. Congrats on the new store!

Its a great shop with good prices. I bought a bodyguard from them. The price was the same as through Bud's. Yes there was tax on top but I certainly don't mind spending a few dollars more to support a local merchant. One word of warning, Ryan can and will talk your head off. It's all good though. He knows what he is talking about, has a good sense of humor and isn't one of those 'if its not a (insert brand here) I'm not talking to you' types. All guns matter.

Nice selection of handguns and AR's. Certainly worth a trip. Oh, and a gun smith who seems to know his trade. I drive by everyday and there are always cars in the lot. If you do stop in, please mention that they should offer free coffee.
