I had already booked a rental house in the Outer Banks before this all started. I should probably email the owner soon see what they think is going to happen. It's not until August thankfully.
No I left the Army with only 6 years. Thought about going back a few times but then life kept happening. Honestly, with all the deploying going on through the bulk of that timeframe, I was definitely better off NOT going back. I did my 4 deployments. Plenty enough.
On my retirement: I have a lot of people telling me I'm crazy for hanging around, but my reasoning is that I really don't want to start another career at this point. While I have a TON of interests and could easily occupy my time, I don't have any expertise that could translate into a second career beyond domestic violence work, which I definitely do not want to get further involved in on the civilian side. I have considered bartending at a few of my friend's bars/restaurants, but I'm not sure I want to turn one of my leisure interests into work.
So I just continue to hang around in my dungeon office where I pretty much have the run of the place, cover patrol about once a week and do the odd overtime detail every so often, all the while increasing my pension as a side benefit. Not really such a bad deal UNLESS you are of the mindset that every year I continue to work is also technically becoming worth less and less salary because I'd be getting the bulk of it anyway to stay home.

Ah. Understandable. I'd stick with it and bank it if you can. The folks I know that draw more than one like I mentioned wound up happy with it - but I'm talking about guys that have both Army or Navy and LEO (and in one case, USPS on TOP of that). Definitely different times, though, these are guys that did 1, 2 tours in RVN and then basically the rest in the non-deployed Guard, while being stateside cops.

Friend of mine retired from the troopers and took a security job at a hospital. Worked his way up to head of security. I think there are all kinds of jobs you would be qualified for Airborne, especially with your experience directing personnel.

I worked for Tri-State for 32 years as A sub contractor . Window/Door/ Sash installer [ a few years I got A Regular W2] Then back to a the 1099 even though I paid SS and Tax.
Out of work NYS told NO to bad Not eligible. Fuck this state .
But the illegal human garbage in 7-11 and gas stations are OK.

I have been paying into the UI for 30 yrs. as a sole proprietor which means I am NEVER able to collect. The Feds come in with this pandemic CARE FUAC act and the state does everything they can to keep the $ for their preferred class.

I really hope the guy with 19 had military or something because even considering someone 10 times worse than DiBlasio it would be stupid to lose the variable supplement and some other benefits just to leave with 1 year left to go.
