Unrestricted carry

I got mine right out of the gate in Madison Co. I don't think we know much about how this new judge is. Have you contacted the county clerk to see what she says the norm is?

Erie County here. I had to basically write an essay.
Basically (pure truth; no bullshit):
Don't be excessively wordy.
I attached supplemental training certificates and membership cards to gun ranges I belong to (shows practice.) I'm an RSO and NRA rifle instructor, included that but did not boast of NRA/SCOPE membership. (Focused on training, safety and teaching firearms safety.) I listed I was an assistant coach for the local high school rifle team (years ago.)
When my son applied for his unrestricted he listed his shooting merit badges, participation in school rifle team. Basically activities related to responsible firearms operation.
Neither of us are hunters. I did submit a copy of my hunter training certificate.
If you back country hike, good reason. Fish in PA? Antique collector that travels? Hunter? Couple of guys I know drive way out of state to collect Harley parts for swap meets; weekend traders-business.
I'm throwing ideas out here...............

What is an unrestricted license? I'm in the process of getting my CCW and haven't heard of restricted vs unrestricted.

Allows you to carry concealed anywhere deemed legal in NY, outside of NYC.

Also note there is nothing about "Restricted" vs "Unrestricted" in penal law (PL400) so no surprise you haven't heard about it. However some licensing officers put so called "administrative restrictions" on some pistol permits (i.e., licenses). These come in the form of "Sportsman" or "Target Shooting" and others depending on county. Where no such "restrictions" are placed on license some counties state "Unrestricted" my understanding is other counties do not. It's all a bunch of horseshit IMHO but is what it is. /rant.

I am pretty sure Westchester police would nail you if you were carrying on say a Putnam permit. Maybe better example would be Long Island?

6. License: Validity. Any license issued pursuant to this section shall be valid notwithstanding the provisions of any local law or ordinance. No license shall be transferable to any other person or premises. A license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver, not otherwise limited as to place or time of possession, shall be effective throughout the state, except that the same shall not be valid within the city of New York unless a special permit granting validity is issued by the police commissioner of that city.
Thank you very much. I have and am continuing to take pistol Safety courses, law course, conceal carry... to build up a portfolio. I'm an active member of GOA, NRA, and USCCA. I'm joining a rod and gun club this summer and looking for a pistol club to join. This is a hobby I am really passionate about. I enjoy all shooting sports including bow.

I'm going to take a political correctness speaking course, a religion awareness course, a place of assembly course, pay a large sum of money, get mugshots, fingerprints, letters from people who will vouch and fill out/send in a background info. sheet, get my priest to vouch, interview with the Sheriff, then hope some guy who is double dipping on my tax dollars will ok me to get my "can speak" permit! If I get it I will go back pay more add more info. and hope I get a unrestricted "can speak" permit in a couple of years.

It is very frustrating. I can walk into any LGS and walk out today with any rifle or shotgun of my choice but I have to jump through hoops and shell out lots of money to MAYBE get an unrestricted permit.

Ah, but the courts have upheld the practice!! Therefore it is acceptable for one individual to make a subjective and arbitrary decision
in regards to your NYS concealed carry License. What in the world is wrong with you guys and gals? Isn't this practice rooted in common sense
and sound reason? Just because someone from another County is allowed to enter your county and carry their weapon concealed when out to dinner,
should be of no concern to you!! Same for the people in your own county that may have acquired their License from an earlier licensing officer who granted a NYS pistol License, Period. Those guys were just lucky I guess. Ssort of like rolling the dice in a casino. Come on!! Get over the fact that the pistol License
you received is different. Tough luck for you. "Somedays you get the elevator and some days you get the shaft". Stop all the whining. Jump through the hoops , spend the money it costs and take a chunk of time from your life to get what others receive right from the beginning. No big deal!!
Oh, On a different subject. One last thing I need help with. When someone finds the words "selective incorporation" occurring together in the United States Constitution please advise me as to where to look.

They're is no such thing as a restricted license in NYS law.
Some counties write administrative restrictions on them , but they have no force of law.
Like "no guns allowed " signs.
Can't wait for the people not understanding the sarcasm to have a field day with this.

Madison county has a real good sheriff right now and this pistol dept runs pretty damn fast . But for an unrestricted you need the judge to sign off. This will take another pistol safety coarse and a written letter stating the reasons why you want to carry beyond hunting , target, collection , etc.. My wife just had success within the last year but the lady at the office said she should buy lottery tickets because most don't get approved.. One important thing to remember is that a judge will follow the current political bias depending who is office.. ( locally and federal ).. I'd say if anyone wants one , now is the time to try here in Madison county..
I will after I have my permit for a year. In the meantime I'm going to keep taking courses, of it helps, great, if not I will keep trying
