Last Saturday when I arrived home, I found a letter from the NYSP in my mailbox. Upon opening said letter I find my NYS Pistol recertification paperwork inside. Attached to the paperwork is a letter saying something was incorrect on the form. So looking through the form I see I forgot to write the date next to my signature at the very bottom. They also enclosed a nice self addressed envelope to return it to them after I write the date. The form was send just before the deadline of January 31st, and I send it return receipt requested which I have received back stamped by pistol permit office as received.

Here is my quandary, they sent the letter back to me regular mail and have no way of proving that I received it back from them, see where I am headed with this? What would you guys do? Because I have received the return receipt I have proof that I mailed it and they received it, what if the return letter they sent me never made it to me. My thought is the only recourse they have to make me file to paperwork again and they have no way to prove otherwise. I should be off the radar until my wife recerts her permit sometime next year, 2019, with our co-registered handguns.

Interested to hear what you guys think.

I wouldn't stress over it. You recerted before the deadline, they sent it back for date by signature. You sent it back with proof of receipt. End of story.

I get what you are saying but you'd be inviting unnecessary trouble. Just date it and send it back.

Seems like your recert is an open case and so very much on their radar. I doubt they just fired off the letter asking for the correction and forgot about it. I would think if they don't receive your correction they would perhaps send another notice and failing that, suspend or revoke your permit. I wouldn't chance it. Make the corrections and send it back return receipt again, so they can't do what you are thinking of doing.

as usual, too late to say "it could happen" Did you initially recert by mail or computer. IF computer, you have proof you recerted. If by mail, then you take your chances on mistakes.

Mail and was sent certified return receipt requested. I have the original mailing receipt and the return receipt stamped received by NYSP Pistol recertification division in my possession.

It’s a box in the data base that needs to be checked off.

The letter and envelope should have a posted date and date the letter was written. (Hopefully)

Same thing happened to me,I didn't sign or date it as the lines were not labeled as such,it came back with X's by the lines and yellow highlighted.
I signed and dated it and sent it back in their envelope.

Document everything. Keep pictures and copies. It might not be anything big, but on the off chance it is, you can prove your case.

Hell if they wanted to be dicks they could probably easily invalidate your original from January

just send it back ( with a copy of the original mailing receipt and the return receipt stamped received by NYSP .. SEE !!!! ) .. with still no date on the form if you have it .. LOL .. did that get you warm n fuzzy LOL ..

shit where i work I have to fill in checks because grown men don't know how to fill one out .. man .. i take in checks for 500 bucks to 1500 .. and the pay to is blank .. fking really

In this sense, I'm glad I never applied for a permit. I don't agree with any registration.
I want a pistol but won't buy black market. Are ghost pistols legal without permit? ...... curious.

I can’t say you should do it but they sell 80% Glock kits that don’t have a serial number and can be registered after they are milled by a gunsmith. Wink wink.

nope .. you have to do the work your self .. they passed a law on that a year or to ago ..
if i have a mill or the tools and you come over to do a 80% .. you have learn how use the tools and to do it .. not me
and there is no registration needed or serial num .. UNLESS .. you decide to sell it later on .. then you have to serial it ..

you build a 80% its for only you ...unless you want to do paper work and sell it later on ..

only thing you can have in NY as a pistol is a Black powder one ... and no components to fire it with no PP .. but they do make a great assault hammer

building a 80% 1911 at home for home protection ( heller ) .. hasn't been tested in NY .. you would be a first case .. per heller i should be able to buy any
pistol for home use only with no PP and load my BP pistol .. good luck buying one at a FFL .. ..
