Exactly what I was thinking as well. They get 26/30 and other items back for now. Next, they need to file a lawsuit to get the others back, - and they need to sue for damages too.

The Politicians that decry "I'm not going to take your guns..." and they're right, they aren't, they're going to give order that they will have no physical consequences for unless and until the People (or someone they really piss the fuck off) hold them accountable. This sort of double speak is done as frequently as lying by omission or outright whoppers.

If the state can't id the weapons as not safe act approved then they are approved.
I got a dwai 30+ yrs ago got a letter from Onondaga county, jkevin mulroy (now dead) stating to turn over my handguns, I gave them to a dealer friend to sell, after 1 yr probation got them back. Doing the interview after the year to get my permit back jkevin just wanted $300 in cash in a unmarked envelope handed to his minion who turned and handed it to jkevin, who then went on about how we the people don't have the right to guns for 20-30 min.. Until I figured out he wanted me to say yes master to.
Go to the cop shop and they tell me I was lucky to have a ffl hold them because at 9 months they would have been destroyed. I did get the cops full name, that he lived in x area, puts his weapon in a small coin safe in the front closet and they go out Friday nights to eat with no weapon on him.
Go to the secretary to obtain my permit and need to pay for a background check, standing there waiting for the nics she hands me my permit and I'm good to go. I ask about the background check she said, they do them later on; we talk about the nics her answer was I look like a nice guy so all good.

I was thinking about this a bit more, - specifically the Ruger 10-22 with a scope. Wondered what the Hell it could have had that made them keep it, yet NOT charge them for violating the (UN)SAFE Act.
Maybe they had added something like the "Spur" (remember those?) onto it to use as a forward hand grip? Or perhaps the 10-22 had a threaded barrel end (which was a standard feature unless you had purchased a New Yorkistan "neutered" model with an unthreaded barrel), and they may have pinned, welded, or JB welded a nut on the threaded end? I had bought one of those neutered ones when I lived back in NY, and sold it now that I live in Free America.

Things were much different 30 years ago.
Back then I got a speeding ticket, and I "knew" people, and I would just go give them the ticket and like magic, poof it was gone, but if course with some antics. I only did that once, and I've been clean ever since. Learned my lesson on that one... I'm not granny driver, but I follow the posted limits and drive with the speed of the "normal" traffic.
Now a days, everything is done in a computer, and recorded not only on the squad car, but a body cam. Yeah, don't work like that any more, sadly.

You don't have to kill an attacker in self-defense in New Yorkistan to be red flagged. I was wrongfully red flagged years ago in NYS over NOTHING, and it took me a painful and costly 6 month fight to get my guns returned to me.
I call bullshit on the EC Sheriff keeping these 4 guns, and I hope the plaintiffs sue the living shit out of the Sheriff and the EC lawyers involved.

The sheriff is really in a pickle here. Either they must state how the guns are not SafeACT compliant, and risk it going to the courts as the ideal case for GOA, or give them back and not specify what they thought.
My guess is they'll do the latter at some point but are dragging it out as long as possible as a dick move.
