I think one of the biggest faults we've had with military engagements is not going full-bore right from the get-go. If you're going to go to war, throw everything you legally can at it. Our military is incredibly powerful, but they're always restrained by politics. Tossing million-dollar missiles around isn't enough, way too many tiny regimes just hunker down and shrug it off.

A huge reason why Desert Storm was won so quickly was the open Rules of engagement. Amazing what can be done when you tell a bunch of young guys they can do pretty much anything they want....

Iran has been planning for this for actual generations. This is their "good war". They are highly motivated and feel it's a genuine existential threat. They know they cannot lose.
We are lobbing multi million dollar missiles at them blowing things up.
All Iran has to do is be more patient, be willing to absorb losses and then wait us out.
