Actually one of the crazier theories I've heard is there is a Theory that part of our national defense strategy is to EMP ourselves, conus and Canada as Russian/Chinese ballistic missiles are en-route to kill their guidance systems and essentially turn them into unguided warheads that may not even return to their orbit going through the atmosphere to hit CONUS but might end up going over the ocean, out into space or going towards central America.

It's actually partly insane and genius to consider. I guess it depends how devastating an actual EMP attack would be if the cure is worse than the disease. If an EMP would be as bad as they say then launching 20 nuclear EMPS above north America as an invisible guidance disruption shield is worse than absorbing nuclear hits.

It's the reason some claim we have nuclear cruise missiles armed b52s on patrol over CONUS so they can act as mobile anti missile, missile launching platforms. Not all the different from the Nike missile plan from the 50s and 60s. That's pretty crazy if you look that up. Using nuclear warheads SAMs to attack Russian bombers. We planned to airburst nuke ourselves and Canada to stope their bombers

I'm will to bet the farm that we've already got space based lasers on satellites. Remember some years back China was having some satellites mysteriously stop working....? They were claiming we caused it.

Everyone knows how to harden equipment against EMP.

We even built a test stand large enough to EMP a B52 to make sure it all worked properly.

You can be sure that ICBMs are going to be the most EMP hardened equipment on the planet.

There *were* ABM systems that were designed to *nuke* incoming nukes.

As it turns out, the neutron Flux from a nearby explosion will destabilize the core of a nuclear weapon for several minutes and it won't be able to detonate fully.

One of the hardest parts of planning to fight a nuclear war is to deconflict all your own strikes so they don't interfere with each other.

We do *not* launch everything all at once as soon as the order is given. It's all a carefully choreographed ballet to control what time everything arrives on target so they don't interfere with each other.

The sprint ABM system (among others) used small nuclear warheads to shoot down incoming ICBMs. Even if they didn't detonate close enough to destroy the incoming missile, they would irradiated the core enough that it couldn't detonate for a few minutes. An ICBM can't pause to wait for the core to stabilize LOL, it's going in like a lawn dart whether the core is ready or not.

But, any EMP we can generate is not going to interfere with any of the systems necessary to fight a nuclear war. It will fuck the civilian infrastructure, but the military will be fine.
