Yesterday the guy who was arrested recently for daring to steal a poster in north korea was released.

For his troubles he's now suffering massive brain damage.
He's just one of many who are kidnapped by north korea for minor or non existent infractions.

IMO they need to be more explicit: not only is "normal consular relations" not there, but if you are kidnapped the US gov needs to adopt a policy in which as a matter of course they will expel no effort whatsoever in assisting citizens kidnapped by the regime. This happens all the time. I would have called for an outright ban, but I think it's wrong for a country to ban its citizens from visiting another unless actively at war with it--oh wait, we are (no peace treaty after korean war).
