He should have pulled out a portable jamming device, turned it on, sat it on his podium and said "I am here to debate Joe Biden, not the man behind the curtain"

I imagine the Democrats considered that possibility, and would have had a secure channel that you couldn't listen in on or feed false information.

But, you can jam a signal much more easily than you can intercept or hijack it.
