I try to get him out shooting once a week in the dry season. For the most part he loads his own gun and can shoot decent for a kid. He loves shooting one of the Ruger Mark 2 pistols. He like to load six bullets in it because he just turned six years old.
I let him pick his targets out and I usually take empty beer & soda cans and a gallon of water for targets. Shoot them with the 17HMR and they jump up and peel open like a piece of paper. A few weeks ago I ran out of water to fill the cans and after shooting the water filled cans he shot at the empty can.
I see the dirt flying up after each shot and the can didn't move.i thought he was missing it.
I bet him a dollar he was missing the can, seven shots. Well I owed him seven dollars. I'll take a picture of the can and post it later today.
He will get better as he grows and the guns fit him better, but the spark has been ignited. He'll be a Republican for sure. When ever he sees a picture of OBOZA he says,"That guy is the Jack Ass"

Your the asshole, he has been shooting 22 rifles and 22 handguns for a year now. It's not his first time at a rodeo.
We'll be out again tomorrow morning for three or four hours of target shooting.
I trust him more then a few grown men I use to shoot with.
But every one is entitled to their own personal oppinion, you have yours, and I have mine. That's the nice thing about this Country.
As far as hitting targets, he's better then \some grown men I go shooting with.

Every one has their view on things and are entitled to it. I'm not getting in a pissing match.
Any way we got out yesterday, July 4th for over four hours of heavy shooting. This place is way up on the summit of one of the mountains in the Cascade Range. We went there a month ago and couldn't get up there because of the snow was still on & DEEP.
You can see snow on top of a couple of mountains in the background behind us. This was taken yesterday, July 4th.
We took a bunch of guns to shoot and he got to shoot a old Iver Johnson 12 gauge with mini 12 gauge shotgun shells. His first time shooting a shotgun.
These are the guns we took, a good selection of guns to shoot.

Wait till you get a searing hot casing ricocheted back into your face, you go "wholly shit, thank god I was wearing eye protection". My 1911 chucks em close sometimes..usually an ejection issue and a tweak cures it, but sometimes it happens just because. Good to be safer than sorry than fucking your eyes up for the rest of your life

He has what it take to be a great marksman when he gets a little bit bigger and grows in to the guns. He just turned six a couple of weeks ago and is a decent shot now, it will get better and he has the love of shooting in his blood. He knows the different types of handguns, the difference between single-action and double-action.
Putting his hearing protection is instilled in to him, just as keeping the safe on and finger off the trigger until it's time to shoot the gun.
I need to see what kind of bow I need to start him out on, he has shot a couple of cheap bows and want his own. I have $60 set aside for one. Once I see what to get I'll pick up everything he needs to get started. I'll get new arrows for my compound and shoot with him. We can shoot bb guns, pellet guns and arrows in the back yard, so we can get a lot of shooting in together.
Last spring a year ago, his first time shooting a full size Mossberg single shot 22lr.
I have a video of this shoot that I can upload and post. He has been shooting BB Guns for some time before this shooting outing.

The target stand need to be replaced, I'll take pictures of us making a new one and post them in here. the front is 30" by 30", the back is higher so when it is spread out the front is straight up & down. I attach the 30" X 30" cardboard on with deck screws and staple the targets on.
I let him pick out his targets, I have a large selection of them at home.
