A few things come to mind about this family, who was lucky this near miss did not have a darker ending.

They were ill prepared. She had to retrieve an unloaded .22, and load it after directed to do so over the phone by her husband.

Even in New York this was not a friendly social visit. This 6 foot 1 inch 275 pound thug showed up unannounced, when a mother with two daughters were home alone, he disregarded the initial ignored rebuff at the front door, he entered the uncommon access back yard, he ignored warnings of an armed homeowner, he smashed through a back basement access door, he reached in to the home unlocking the secured back door, and he was armed with a knife, pepperspray, and duct tape. She did not shoot until he breached the home and although she apparently did not violate any laws in New York, this is another shining example why New Yorkers need access to insurance that may help mitigate some of the inevitable smothering legal costs and stress that follows after you protect your family. FUAC and your wicked winged monkeys for denying New Yorkers access to USCCA Self Defense Shield, NRA Carry Guard, 2nd Call Defense, etc.

I think the question is how did he get her address? Did he Snoop around for it on the internet or did she give it to him? If he did it just using a bunch of search functions on the internet than he could of done the same to any pretty young girl he saw on Facebook. If she gave it to him, than yeah, she's got a serious lesson to learn. The article doesn't say.
Point is, there's no lesson to be learned if she just started talking to someone she randomly met on the internet and he went crazy trying to find her. This guy just instilled in her that every guy you ever talk to is out to get you some how. But what's she going to do, never go on the internet again. Seems kind of impossible, as well as hypocritical to suggest such a thing. But, the article makes no mention of how he knew where to find her or what the gist of their relationship was, so we're kinda left on the dark.
