Nikon has announced that they are no longer going to make scopes as doing so is politically incorrect!! What does Nikon make their money on?? The cameras for the media. Sorry .... guns are bad for their business. I would say throw the nikon in the garbage as that's where it'll wind up anyway if it needs repair. No more warranty. Now ... to stay on topic here, I like the Votex and the Leupold The no fault warranty of the Vortex is a plus BUT ... I'm going to throw in the Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 into the mix. They are generally in the $139.99 range and the German glass on them is clear as could be.

Entry level scopes are mostly chinese no matter what brand.
Most brands do not make any scopes and rely in OEM manufactures for design and manufacturing.
For example Primary Arms are a retailer and do not make a single scope. It is like if Midway decides to sell scopes for their Stoner brand,
they are a retailer nothing else.
Someone like Vortex and Weaver are a bit more involved and actually participate in the design and quality but they are also not makers
of anything.
Even popular makers they do not make any scopes so they design and order so they can compete in those segments.
Manufacturing of lenses and scope construction comes primarily from the following places based on the different budgets:
A) Cheap = China.
B) Better = Taiwan, south Korea.
C) Best = Japan, Germany and USA
Vortex diamondback come from china.
Leupold also uses chinese lenses and parts for entry level. Does it mean that all lenses are crap? No, but do not expect the same
quality as japanese or german. Taiwan is also entry level but better construction on average for the entry series.
Leupold has some nice scopes made in the US and also redfield (leupold owned) where the revolution series is made here.

I just don't see the point of buying entry level scopes that are bulky, sometimes haeavy, advertise mildot or BDC adjustment yet they do not really work. That is why either go simple with a small yet rugged scope with excellent glass or then for target a simple front plane army mild dot yet rugged and with great glass and positive adjustment.
Or of you want to save and like a light scope the Burris fulfield 2-7 from seem to be perfect for a hunter role at only 12 oz and small footprint.
realistically no much is needed for white tail and you do not want more than x2 or x3 for scouting and hunting deer and do not need adjustment. Just keep in mind if you want the scope for something else or a quality quick mount for other rifle. Something that can keep a zero.
If you can put brands aside choose glass based on their quality, features and look for deals if you are in abudget even if that means spending a bit more in a better scope.
And always go and see a few dealers and look through them and see if you like what you see in terms of glass, light transmission and features.
The most important part of the optical system are our own eyes so after you pickup a scope and do the ocular adjustment what might look fine
for some might not be the same for you. That is why ask to see if you can test some.

On that note, I have a Leupold VX-1 2-7×33 mounted on my Ruger American 7mm-08. I would have to say that it would be difficult to find a more compact all-around rifle scope that will do the job on average whitetail hunting in NY. 10 oz. I can honestly say that if the only rifle and scope combo I had was the 7mm-08 with the Leupold 2-7×33, I could make it work for just about anywhere for medium game, and elk.

As soon as we receive more in the shop, I'll take a picture. It has German glass. Yes, assembled in Philippines , but the fact remains, they are a really good scope and clear as could be. We ordered 3 in and they left very quickly. I'm sure it was mostly price point, but again, the clarity of them is amazing. Noone said these were top of the line scopes. You want to play with those look to Zeiss. and others in the $2000 plus range. I'm going by what was told to us by the Sig rep. Now .... the quality of the "German glass" may not be on par with upper line scopes. Noone is getting a $1000 scope for $139.99. Great info as always Meke!!
