I applied for my concealed carry permit on Friday, September 24th @ 3 pm. My intention is to keep this thread updated with interactions i receive from my references and when, what could be a phone interview with the monroe county sheriff's office and when, and when i receive word as to an approval or denial by mail. My hope is to shed some light for others as to the timeline, for me at least personally. YMMV, but hopefully this helps.

Good luck. Hopefully you get it in under a year. I purchased a new pistol earlier in the year and had to get my permit updated before I could pick it up. I had to mail the application in as they did not allow people to come into the clerk's office. I was pleasantly surprised at the turnaround time of about a week. Maybe you'll get lucky.
Noted that. I may be wrong, but doesn't the clerk's office website now state that amending a permit ( adding) can now be done in person? I thought that changed ( for monroe county).

When I applied in Erie I was expecting 15 months. Got mine in about 11.

Policy may have changed after I updated my permit.

Be perpared to wait and wait and if your in the city of Rochester you get to wait some more. The RPD does the backgound checks for city residents and I think they only do one a day! It took 23.5 months for my wife's permit to be approved, It sat for well over a year waiting for the BGC then months waiting for the judge. OH fun times!

OH YEAH!! Do NOT go down and ask the police why it's taking so long! They got right up in my face and told me "we don't have to LET you have a permit" and then demanded my ID, needless to say they didn't get any ID
Fortunately in the suburbs. When did she apply? Recently ( obviously over 2 years ago, but what year? )
I wouldn't ask myself. I figure, for me, i wouldn't want to give them any reason to delay or deny my application.

This might be an interesting aside. For anyone familiar with ice hockey, there is an amusing superstition during the playoffs. Not shaving until you either win it all or lose called the "playoff beard ".
The day my permit was handed in i was completely clean shaven. Unusual as i almost always have a short, well trimmed goatee, something my wife likes.
Unbenounced to her and until now unknown to anyone else, i have decided to grow a "pistol permit playoff beard " .
This will be interesting, and in the long run funny as hell. No shaving or haircuts until i hear one way or the other. Only trimming when i get word contacts have been called, but just cleanup,
no shortening of length. Guess i might report beard length monthly lol.

My daughter got her Monroe Cnty permit in under 6 months. She has no idea why. Her “then husband” applied the same day and it took 14 months to be denied. The dumbass used his therapist as a reference. He had bad ptsd and refused meds.

my happy ending to a my PP process, from 1994....yes, Im old, THIS IS A TRUE STORY, no name were changed, mainly because I can't remember them, LOL
I applied for my PP in December of '93, all paperwork and finger prints, cost as I remember, I think was $155??? I really don't remember, anyway to my story. Keep in mind that the little girl Katy Poulin <sp> had disappeared the previous spring, and when applied for my PP, was told "everyone is out looking for Katy" so PP applications were not being processed?? ooookay?
After waiting nine months I ran in to Fred from American Sportsman Gun store. (At the time, he was still on Culver rd. ) at a convenience store getting coffee. I asked him about the wait time, and told him its been 9 months. He got a little angry and said "you call the Monroe County Sheriff and demand your PP", I said "if I call they will put my file on the bottom of the list" Fred said " bullshit, there is no file, thats a myth, everyone is in the computer, call them and tell them they are in violation of NYS Constitution and you demand to have your permit"
so thats what I did
I called and got a nice lady ( with a sexy voice) said the Officer in charge of PP is out and he will call you back ( I forgot the guys name and I just got my NEW cell phone) I was not holding my breath that this deputy would call back. An hour later, much to my surprise, the dude called me back and asked ' who the hell are you" i said "i applied for my permit 9 months and 3 weeks ago and Id like to know the status of my permit, and I gave him my name.
He said, S.O.B., there you are, let me call you back. He called back 20 minutes later and said "we have a problem, you were arrested in '71. I said Yes, but the judge said because it was a closed file I didn't have to put that on any paperwork and honestly I have no idea what the charge was. The Sheriff said, Yes that maybe true of most government paperwork, but on a NYS PP you have to declare it on the application. I said Great, now I have to start all over and wait another 9 months, The Sheriff said " hell no, anyone with a brain can see you were released within 24 of being arrested, Im guessing you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and it was a bogus charge? I said , yep, that was a sucky day, He laughed and said, I bet, just come down, I'll fix the application, all you have to do is initial it and I'll run it over to the judge. I said be there in a bit ( county office building downtown)
when I got there I walked into the office and the nice lady with the sexy voice, was actually very sexy, said the Sheriff had left for the day? I was like frustrated and said "He told me to come down and sign the application..... she said "oh are you jeff," I said yes maam, she said wait here, she disappeaed in his office and said "Initial here, and here, sign here" We'll give you call when it all set
Now Im figuring another few months, the next day I get a phone call at 4;45pm from Then County Clerk Margarete DeFransico, herself, much to my surprised she said, I have your permit, you can come get it anytime. I said you close at 5, right, she said Oh just come down in the morning. I said there will be a lot of people in line and Im a heating guy so I won't have a lot of time, she cut me off and said , No, no, just come right up to the counter. I said Ok
Next morning I get to the County office building and its packed, there is a line of about 30 people waiting to get building permits, licenses, blah,blah,blah, I walk right past everyone and get to the counter and the nice young lady, working with a customer, looks at me and says, politely, but firmly, the end of the line is back there sir. I said, Margarete told me to come to the counter, the young lady says, are you Jeff, can I see your ID, I gave her my driver license and she says, excuse me, I'll be right back. She comes back 2 minutes later and says here you go sorry for the delay. And i walked out with my permit

Avenue D is in the hood of Rochester....
Mine took 9 months 13 days in 2013. I've heard wide ranging wait times in recent years from 2 months to 18 months. No one really knows. Its ridiculous honestly.
I am honestly counting the days and will report on it throughout the process
