Walther P38 value?

Do all serial numbers match? A lot of them were made and poor quality caused a lot of mis matched parts especially later in the war. We were bombing the shit out of them and the French were making them later in the war. The holster looks nice and the value of them is about $300-400.00 alone last I looked. The gun condition is not the best.

I picked up a P-1 a dozen years ago or so. It is the post-war aluminum frame P-38. From what I've read the P-1 was the German military and police sidearm for a few decades after the war. Mine is dated 1979 made by Walther. When they became surplus they flooded the US market, were not expensive, and dropped the price on P-38's also. The war prize P-38's are expensive for their historical value, or are not for sale by the veteran's family. The P-38's made for the civilian market after the war are nicely made by notable manufacturers. They don't have historical value, but are becoming antiques. The P-1's are still very reasonably priced as there are a lot of them out there. They are not nicely finished beauties. They are very much service sidearms, not target shooters but decent point and shoot guns. First round DA trigger pull is difficult but gets better with use; subsequent SA are no problem. Easy to maintain. Change the springs, especially on surplus magazines. Parts readily available. P-1's are made to shoot fairly brisk NATO hardball, not hollowpoints. If you wanted to focus on collecting a type of surplus handgun the P-1 would be a good choice. I've thought of picking up another, or two.

I'm horrible at taking gun pictures. It's in pretty damn good shape. I'm sure my pics made it look worse.
