Looks like it applies to the chinese but not australian or singapore buyers. Not sure how that is going to help, but I did hear a story that property in NYC is increasing in price due to chinese buyers so maybe its true.

I've also read a number of stories about rich people buying properties in new zealand for when the SHTF. Apparently the belief is whatever happens in the world will not affect new zealand. Not sure why that would be, but what the hell do I know.

It would appear that despite all the talk about the chinese economic miracle anyone who can get their money out of that country is doing so. Makes one wonder just how strong the economy over there really is and if it is headed for a crash.

I see it as a nationalist move. Canada could use it. The property market in some parts of it is inaccessible to locals due to foreign money, as tirwin1 alluded to.

I heard on the news yesterday that any chinese with the ability have hedged significantly with money outside their country, but the gov there is clamping down hard on it.

Frankly there is something kind of sick about "investing" in a need such as housing, at others' expense (as it is, due to an ever limited supply of it). A roof over one's head is third only after food and clothing, respectively. I do take issue with the market being bent as an investment to satisfy foreigners.

Imagine if our drinking water prices were being artificially inflated because a limited amount of water was being fought over by people buying interests in the water, trading those interests, and perhaps not even ever drinking it themselves because they are thousands of miles away.

You don't even have to go to foreign investors necessarily. In my area (the Catskill Region) AirBnB has been driving up rents and home prices all over, pricing many out of the market. A buddy of mine is looking to buy a place and his experience has been that nearly every house he inquires about is bought up by investors/speculators (generally from NYC but not always) who have intentions of turning it into an AirBnB.

I am looking into retiring to Denmark or Norway. Very, very difficult. I am told that if I start the process now, I may get permission to immigrate and purchase property within the next 7-8 years.

I have to learn the language, which will be somewhat easy, I have to prove that I can support myself and many other hurdles. I am more than willing to do all that is needed.

Upon retirement, I do not believe I will have any money problems. I have spent the past 25 years getting ready for that day.

I have been to both Countries and absolutely love what I have seen and experienced.

It is where my family originally came from and I have more family there than I do here.

I have been for quite some time very unhappy with the direction of these United States and I feel it is only going to get worse.

We'll see, I have about ten years before the time comes, much can change in a decade.

For handguns, the lowest ownership age is 21 with no exceptions allowed. For inherited weapons, it is up to the local police chief to make a decision based on the individual facts of the case.

An applicant must have a clean police record in order to obtain an ownership license.

To get a hunting license you need to go through a course that includes a theory test and three practical tests; shotgun, basic rifle and rifle for big game. This will give you the right to request a permit for a specific gun from the police, which will grant it unless they find a reason not to. Each individual gun requires a separate permit, which you will only get of it is deemed necessary for you to own that gun. In practice that means that you probably won't have any issues getting a rifle for big game and a shotgun (if you have passed the aforementioned hunting tests), but it's unlikely that you will be allowed two rifles with the same caliber and use.

I am more than aware of the gun laws in those Countries. I am okay with them, (over there). I live in a world where a gun, in my opinion, is a needed tool. I wished the world was a better place, a safer place, a place where I did not think my life and safety were at risk. The criminal element in Scandinavia is very low, wonder why? There is no comparison here to there. If I did not feel the NEED to carry a gun, I probably would not.
