I know its obnoxious, over kill, and expensive, but I want one.

Talk me out of it!!

I'm also considering a Prodigy or possibly a Staccato, but I dont really want another 9mm even though those are two very nice guns.

Just to scratch the itch of a hand cannon I was thinking maybe the Taurus Raging Hunter in 44 mag would fill that void, but it's definitely no Desert Eagle! Albeit A LOT cheaper $2600ish vs. $800ish.

If they are over 50 ounces they are illegal and considered an assault weapon in NYS. The prodigy looks really nice.

Better off going to shooting range that offer rentals scratch that itch get a prospective if you like get one but for the cost of one you can purchase several others :2pistols:

I have had two hand cannons. A S&W 460 xvr and a Ruger Alaskan in 454 casull. Had to have them. Shot them a couple of times at the range and then they set in the safe after that. Ammo got stupid expensive and also hard to find. Sold them both and got a Colt Anaconda.44 mag. Got over the big caliber handguns.

Guys. Like myself, RTK lives in America. That being said, I sure as hell ain't gonna talk you out of it. Get one. They are a blast. Figuratively and literally. There are deals out there to be had. I'm guessing people that buy them and then realize they're too much. But if you're a real gun enthusiast they aren't bad at all. My 44 mag with hot loads hurts more than the Deagle. I know you reload as well so it's not bad for ammo. A bit more pricey but nothing astronomical. My Deagle has never had a factory round through it. Here is a thread with my blaster. This was back in 2017 and it only had 50 rounds through it before he owner got scared away. It was a smokin' deal for $1200. Cerakoted tungsten.

Get the 44 Mag version. Easier to find ammo for it. Can get a revolver as a companion gun, a lever action as a companion rifle and a semi auto Ruger 44 as a companion carbine. See I just showed you that you need four guns if you just have to have a DE. You are welcome. Please post pics of the family when you get them.

I shot a DE50 in Germany, being left handed my trigger finger bumped the slide lock as the pistol rotated under recoil. It twisted so much in my hand the slide would lock back on every round.

Deagles in 50AE are as awesome and fun to shoot as you think they are. However ammo is expensive and they can be finicky in regards to running reliably. As long as you understand that it is a finicky expensive to feed range toy that most likely will never be reliable enough to trust for self defense and consumes uncommon somewhat hard to find ammo, then go for it.

I have had some time on a deagle L5 in 50AE. If you are looking for a fun fire breathing range toy I might recommend an AR pistol with 7.5” barrel and big 2 chamber brake. Or you could get a S&W x frame in 500 mag, 460xvr or 350 legend.

I got one in the 350 legend and it’s a powerful, loud, fun to shoot hand cannon that cost less than $1 a round to shoot. A box of Winchester white box 350 legend costs $15 for 20 rounds, it puts out a muzzle energy well above 44 magnum, shoots a giant fireball and is deafening to shoot indoors and gets all the attention at the range.

I'm a pretty big boy and have some difficulty getting a good wrap around the grip irrespective the caliber.
I had a .44mag and if another were to come along, I'd be very tempted, but in the long run, it's a bit of a novelty...
At one time I had a Wildey in .45 Win Mag...and an AMT Automag in .44 automag...both were easier to handle, but like the DE, eventually they were sold off.

That's my biggest issue, it would be an expensive range toy.

Also this. Being Asian and naturally having small hands would make shooting the DEagle a challenge.

I've shot quite a bit of 50AE through a Desert Eagle.

I never felt like the recoil was overwhelming. My 44 mag, and even 41 magnum are snappier and more uncomfortable to shoot.

With the Desert Eagle, its not that the recoil is excessive, its just that there's a lot going on - there a huge fireball in the front, the slide is huge and looks like its flying at your face, and the reciprocating and twisting of the bolt makes it feel busy.

Hand size could be an issue, but its not like you're going to shoot 300 rounds per range trip through it.

Get it. You'll be fine!

I don't like Deagles at all. Stupid, big grip. Awkward weight and balance. OK trigger. Great for Mexican carteleros, Russians in movies, and Deadpool.

I prefer a good revolver in .44 Magnum or bigger. More practical, more fun, and depending on caliber, more power. The X-frame Smiths are more powerful. A Ruger Super Blackhawk or Redhawk in .454 Casull would be another great option. Even Taurus' Raging Hunter is an OK revolver, but if you were ready to spend Deagle money, better off buying a Ruger or a Smith. Hell, with Deagle money, you could easily get a Magnum Research BFR or probably even find a really good used Freedom Arms Model 83, and they'd both probably be less.

I just want to add that my DE has been quite reliable. Keep in mind that it was nearly brand new and cerakoted so there's that to be said about a break in period. I think that reliability issues most of the time comes down to shooting fundamentals/grip. Speaking of which, I certainly don't have the biggest hands and have no issues with gripping it. I actually like the feeling of the 2x4 in my hand. It's a hungry man. If you're an experienced shooter you'll be fine as @kev74 said.
