I'm not entirely sure how that works. I THINK you can ship a long gun direct to FFL, but I'm not 100% sure on the process. As for him swimming back for a day, @Eddie Gunks and I lived probably less than 20 minutes from one another when he was here , so if someone was going to ship through him.. I mean, might as well just both come over for a beer. I do have a buddy FFL right down the road though.
I've taken some steps already on this, but not 100% certain it will pan out. If you actually wanted to ship, I'd surely be into it.

It is legal to ship guns directly to an ffl. Some ffl wont accept....but it is 100% legal. (Yes even pistols)

i have a old moss 500AT 12ga pump .. try to find info on that model . .. Dad gave it to me for home defense when i bought my home .. took it out to shoot .. that thing kicked like a mule .. no recoil pad .. just black plastic on the butt .. in the closet it went .. i didn't like it .. loaned it to some friends for hunting .. .. it kicks like a mule .. HAHHHA you got scoped .. i told you .. LOL ..

20 yrs later when i got back into guns .. ohh i got that old mule in the closet .. out it came .. lets see what we can do .. tore it down , refinished the wood .. it needs a recoil pad for sure ,... got a nice limbsaver one .. jigged up the table saw to cut off some stock to get the pull length i wanted to fit the recoil pad .. added some lead shot in the stock screw hole ..

I love that old mule now .. shoot skeet with it .. its a totally different gun ..

Makes no sense to me. Hacking the end off a old gun for $150 is perfect but $200 for a brand new, suitable pump off the shelf is no-go? For a gun she wants to protect her life with?

I know you said you can't explain it, but if you can't negotiate a way for her to get a suitable working gun and learn to use it, and $50 is the sticking point, then I would just let it go. You didn't ask for relationship advice but that's something you're gonna have to figure out yourselves one way or another. I don't think attempting to accommodate the insistence on $150 and not a penny more for an HD gun makes sense or solves the real issue.

This is a done deal. If anyone is curious, this is what she's getting as an 'anniversary' gift. (One of the suggestions from @GOYABEAN actually) It's waiting just down the road with my buddy FFL now. Yes, it's an 'off brand' Turkish made gun but I've read only good reviews everywhere.

Good deal; much better option than a shockwave imho. I’ve got one but without the laser and lots of practice (and ideally a brace) it’s not a great option for HD. The stock makes all the difference.

So, there's a story here.

My girlfriend has a permit and all, but has expressed interest in having a home defense shotgun; as she doesn't feel comfortable at home alone during the week (when she isn't here) alone and in the middle of nowhere. The problem though is that she has what I consider to be an unrealistic expectation of price. Although it's also true that I don't have much (at all) to spend, she has made it clear that even as a gift (though she would still technically be the purchaser legally) she doesn't want something like a NIB Maverick from a shop, based on cost to either of us. Unrealisic or no, I'm not really willing to make much of an argument about it. She's definitely open to (and prefers really) the idea of something used. Some kind of youth model might even be optimal because she's a very small lady. Any gauge is fine, but maybe even a 20 or 410 might be better.

So, I'm wondering if someone local(ish) has an old 500 , or Maverick, or a less expensive turkish made gun, or whatever, that can be acquired a little cheaper and will maybe meet her standards of price and make her happy and get her better armed at home.

Old thread now I know, but I never got any shooting photos..heh. She hasn't actually fired it yet, but she was very happy with it. It was actually more of a surprise than I realized. I kind of thought she knew what was up, but I took her down to my buddy's place for the transfer to her a few days after that last post in the summer and she had no clue who he was or what we were doing there until the 4473 came out and he asked for her license (and then she was still a little confused until the gun came out). I took it apart and stoned down the rails and trigger a little to really slick it up. Some fairly rough edges on the receiver internally, but seems like a decent enough gun; nothing that seems it would hinder function. Cycles 2.75" shells through just fine (I hooked her up with some good proven SD ammo also of course).

She was quite pleased all around. Major points scored.

With my health issues and stuff we just haven't had the chance to shoot. She feels happy with it for protection all the same, though admittedly I'd be a lot more comfortable if she did get to run it some.

I'm going to close this thread up now so it doesn't keep getting bumped, but I'll start a new thread in the proper section if there's any further developments.
