He said one cause could be that investigators did not run one final check before sending teams out to make the arrest. The second cause could be a problem where a computer system did not communicate that the warrants were no longer active.

Yeah and you asshats shouldn't even have been there! The bad guy was already in jail and the warrants expired, so that means you went into a house without a warrant and shot the home owner! Pretty simple when it gets boiled down.

She has a right to defend her home from armed invasion with that shot gun. Every LEO their should be put in jail, They had no lawful right to be their. Girl had no duty to surrender her firearm, she was in her home and perpetrated no crime.

If they were lawfully serving a lawful warrant, then they had a right to be there. Mistakes happen, and cops have immunity for a reason when they aren't acting outside the law. If a uniformed cop with a warrant is telling you to drop your weapon you should drop your weapon. The place to fight the cops is in court, preferably without getting shot if at all possible.

Yes if they had a warrant they were legal.

Unfortunately along with the guy they wanted already in jail they had the wrong address. That's on the police. What we'll never know for sure is if they had a no knock warrant and if they identified themselves. The truth will be hidden. Even if they had a no knock warrant if they don't say it's the police when they come through the door they are fair game if you feel threatened. How do you know it's not a group of robbers?

The nephew, who was there and outside with others, has already stated that multiple uniformed and armed police in police cars swarmed the house and ordered them to put their hands up while they served the warrant. The police said they ordered her multiple times over seconds to drop her weapon before she aimed her gun at an officer. She is in stable condition and if she doesn't have amnesia she can tell her side of the story. Clearly someone on the government side screwed up royally in raiding the wrong house 15 hours after the perp was arrested, but "didn't do nothing" isn't carte blanche to shoot at uniformed officers serving a warrant.

It's not like worse mistakes don't happen in law enforcement. The perp had lived there before and these were his relatives. Possibly another agency had taken custody and failed to ensure that the warrant was cleared, so it's jumping to conclusions to even assume that the it was the responsibility of the cops serving the warrant or their command's fault that they were there.

I'm not anti cop but someone screwed up. From what department we don't know yet. If they really did identify themselves then yes she should've dropped the gun. I've never been in that situation before but I imagine having your door kicked in while you're minding your own business is pretty scary and I'm sure you're not really focusing on what's being said as people rush in.

To say "It's not like worse mistakes don't happen in law enforcement" is not comforting though because innocent homeowners have been killed when the wrong door was kicked in.

We can agree to disagree but any warrant drafted with such gross errors should have zero protections under the law. But hey god forbid i think like a free man and not a subject.

what SHOULD BE BANNED is **no knock** warrants/raids. There is no excuse for a no knock raid. The police can surround a house, and simply knock on the door. if the bad guys resist, then have at it.

No knock warrants endanger the police and the victim.
