At some point during his conversation with Canady, the former deputy said the dog “lunged” toward him, which is when he reacted by firing “one round into the animal ... striking and stopping the threat.”

The threat of a nine pound dog? Yeah, that defense is kinda bullshit.

We had a couple Broome Co Sheriff deputies come to our place a few years ago to ask us to watch the neighbor's baby, long story, but one was going to jail and the other the ER. We had a black lab/chow mix that was probably 110#s. She let both officers in, and when they left she let one out and went after the second one. Funny thing is he never even went for his gun, just jumped back. His partner laughed his ass off, just asked if she's done this before. Neither of them were put off by it in the least. I just jokingly said she must not like your buddy for some reason. They both laughed.
